Okay folks, I’ve suddenly started getting haptic responses to every touch in the bluesky app, despite having turned them off in iPhone settings. It’s driving me up the wall, how do I disable them?

I suppose it is too much to hope that all the cries of AI apocalypse are inspiring better data management strategies on the part of companies and agencies we rely on

Well it’s 9:30 pm, 80°F and I just heard a boom and the power went out for the whole neighborhood. Of course I didn’t keep anything charged, guess I’ll read a book until the lantern dies

My hold on HMS Surprise finally came in, so I’m diving back into the world of Aubrey and Maturin. Was I in a bad mood when I read the last book? Was I simply yearning for the sea? We’re about to find out!

I’m still thinking about Coyote vs Acme, not so much about the movie itself (exactly what I expected) but about distribution, earnings and so on. Opening weekend it played on one screen in my hometown (of 20 screens total), and one screen in the next town (9 screens total)

I’m not linking to that article, I’ll just say that perimenopausal anxiety ruined my career while my doctors provided no guidance and refused to consider HRT. I will fight anyone who says it’s overhyped.

When I was a kid my mom’s neighborhood was full of teachers, city workers, etc. and everyone would mow their lawn on Saturdays. Now only rich people can afford homes here and everyone has gardeners and maids, so it’s like a Richard Scarry book every day around 9:00 am when all the workers show up.

Your annual summertime reminder that cut fresh basil will live very happily in water and grow roots again, so it keeps for months if you keep the water fresh and topped up. This bunch two weeks old

A generous amount of fresh basil living very happily in a clear glass vaseClose up of the base of a clear glass vase full of basil, where you can see that the cut ends have sprouted a bunch of roots. They almost look like green onion roots

Living next door to young kids is so great sometimes. A little kid next door just greeted his dad arriving home from work with “Hi person! Do you like how green I am?” There’s a hedge in the way so I can’t tell which kind of green he is (frog green? tree green?) but it’s pretty charming

Nooooo! Paper Mart has been sold?!? And the new owner is reducing the selection they carry?! That explains why I haven’t been able to get cookie bags for months, I’m so bummed. @billhookunion.beanyear.com any other suggestions for flat cello bags? I just can’t bring myself to order from Uline

I had to snap this while stopped at a light but it does not fully capture the dichotomy between the modern Chevy truck and the 1980’s (I’m guessing) Toyota truck in front of it

An enormous Chevy Silverado 2500 HD (7000 pounds) behind a small 1980’s or so Toyota truck (2500 pounds).

I did the thing I’ve been avoiding all week so I decided to treat myself to a slurpee. I was shocked and appalled to find that they have sugar free ones now?!? I mean I got it because it’s Fresca which I love and it’s fine, but also I think now I deserve 2 treats since this one is clearly invalid

So for *waves hand* reasons I have two different internet providers right now, Frontier and Cox. The internet has been down for about six hours so far tonight, and the problem is affecting BOTH providers so my guess is someone did something very very stupid with a backhoe. But here’s the thing:

My most strongly held cheese opinion is that sheep’s milk cheese is superior to cow or goat milk cheese. The exception that proves the rule is pecorino vs Parmesan, but that’s more about the difference in salinity and aging. A sheep’s milk cheese made just like aged Parmesan would be spectacular

People on Bluesky sigh and talk about The Discourse as if it were something required of them instead of something they opt to partake in, day in and day out. You really don't have to. Post about your favorite cheese

There’s a book that I’m interested in but not absolutely dying to read, so of course it was only published in English in the UK and is not available as an ebook, but I can get an ebook copy in the US in Spanish or German 🙄

Here’s the thing about people backing in to park: it always startles me when they pull out again. If you park head in, brake lights go on when you start the car. Put the car in reverse and that light goes on too. There are no lights on the front to show you’re about to pull out of the parking spot!
