Når man kigger på gamle landskabsfotos bliver det klart hvor voldsomt træer og buske er gået frem i det danske landskab de sidste 200 år. Der var fx helt bart på Sepstrup Sande vest for Silkeborg i 1900 da prof. Eug. Warming kom forbi med sit kamera. Fotos fundet i SNMs arkiv.

"The decline in success rates is absolutely not satisfactory, because it sometimes borders on a lottery” Nature 17 October 2025 Well, an honest lottery would IMHO be far better. For the reasons outlined here: blogs.lse.ac.uk/impactofsoci...

Funding competition sabotages science - Impact of Social Sciences

Research funding competitions seem fair but are often flawed. Gerald Schweiger, Adrian G. Barnett and Stijn Conix argue lotteries may support better science.

New paper alert! The EU Natura 2000 network encompasses populations of most vascular plant species in the region, but with a lot of spatial variation in representativity. The results provide guidance for for better coverage after the planned network expansion. doi.org/10.1111/cobi...

Representativeness of the Natura 2000 network for preserving plant biodiversity in the European Union

The Natura 2000 (N2K) network of protected areas is one of the main tools for area-based conservation in the European Union (EU), yet its role in preserving plant biodiversity requires better underst...

"We show that unmanaged forests are the backbone of biodiversity conservation ... We conclude that to preserve forest biodiversity in Europe, we should increase the proportion of unmanaged forests and the amount of structures supporting biodiversity in extensively managed forests.

Just out in PNAS! We used multi-taxon data to model virtual forest landscapes. Forest withdrawn from timber harvesting are needed in a much higher share than they currently are in Europe, and extensive forests contribute less than expected to multi-taxon diversity. www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

Disturbing citation In 2022, we published a study on *consumers*, i.e. animals and fungi that consume biomass produced by other organisms, e.g. plants. Now, our paper has been cited in what claims to be a metaanalysis of "Consumer Satisfaction in Live Streaming E-commerce". Far out!

#dkpol
