It used to be standard practice that Labour didn't offer membership to anyone who had stood against the party. Crossovers like this have let down their previous voters and should be forced to face a by-election. No wonder confidence in politicians is falling.

excellent (free to) read about the mistakes Germany made with unification in 1990, essentially putting East Germany under guardianship. TL;DR: the AfD vote is rooted in economic hardship from "industrial liquidation", not migraton. (it's from 2019 but was republished because of AfDs result)
