I am ready for the first frost so I can finally have a break from my allergies.
Shawna is still tired

Restoration ecologist. Pollinator friend. Scientist. Science communicator. Lots of pickled things.
I know it's mid-September but I already started looking for new winter boots. I'm pretty annoyed that there are few options with zippers this year. My mobility isn't what it used to be and that feature really helps get them on and off. I live in Canada after all.
I used all of my brain energy up for the week and I've crashed hard.
Cleaning up the garden and I found a small puffball growing in my garden bed. I am so excited!
I have a very normal girls day out planned on Sunday. I'm going to check out a turtle hibernation info walk with a fellow scientist friend and then we are going to go throw axes.
I have dozens of pens on my desk but today my favourite one ran out of ink and I'm flustered beyond belief.
There is a group of 4 young bros at the adjacent campsite who cannot light a campfire to save their lives. I'm tempted to go help them like the middle aged bog witch that I am.
I grilled a spatchcocked Portuguese marinade chicken over the campfire yesterday with sweet potatoes, hakurei turnips and radishes. It was amazing and torture while it was cooking.
I'm camping near North Bay, ON and there are so many cool fungi. Lots of Amenita muscaria in different stages. Anyhoo here are a few cool squishy bois.
What Dolly Parton or Tim Curry movies did everyone watch this weekend? I'm not a big movie watcher normally, but I squeezed in 9 to 5 and Muppets Treasure Island.
I forgot to bookmark the hot sauce recipe I used last year so now I'm playing the game of trying to remember what was in it. I bought 2 pints of habaneros yesterday.
My dog is a very sweet soul who is obsessed with Highland Coos ever since he spent a few days lost in the woods and was adopted by a herd of cows. I took him to see some today.
I ordered my dinner as Thai spicy and now I'm sitting here having a hot flash. No regrets.
I absolutely hate how my apostrophe messes things up when I book travel. I love my weird apostrophe in my last name but oh man computers just glitch out when they read it.
There are some kids chasing a skunk in the park. That's a lesson I kind of want to watch. However, I'm walking my dog and he hasn't understood that lesson just yet. He is keen to learn it again.
Frankenfurter. It's all over. Your mission was a failure, your lifestyle's too extreme. Rest in peace Tim Curry.
I was really sad about Dolly Parton so I donated to the dog rescue where we got both of our beloved poodles. The world needs some joy.
Imagine being talented and beautiful and rich and famous and still the most noteworthy thing about you is how good a person you are.
Must open the windows and take a couch nap to the sound of the rain.
I made 21 jars of tomato sauce yesterday. We still have a half bushel to get through. I am full of regret. There's a reason I only do this every second year.
Behold, a bushel of tomatoes. That's about 22 kg, or 50 pounds.
Today is the day I sauce like an Italian Nonna. Getting a bushel of tomatoes and I've dragged out the jars from storage. Be afraid.
I tried some celery yesterday on a veggie platter and I actually liked it for the first time ever. I'm not sure who I have become and why this happened.
I woke up this morning with a striking urge to get glasses with orange frames. I have no clue why. I don't wear orange. I do, however, wear glasses again.
The dog and I spotted a doe on our evening walk to the creek. He was more excited about the skunk at the other side of the park. Merlin also picked up an Eastern screech owl during that walk. And yes, I live in Canada's largest city.
I've had 2 big cups of coffee today which means I'm about to have the best nap ever.
Behold! The single bean my scarlet runner beans produced so far. But I've still got plenty of flowers and tendrils happening, and lots of pollinators visiting, so I'm hopeful.
French is such a fun language sometimes. The more formal and bureaucratic my tone gets in French writing, the more pissed off I am.
My cucumbers went from non-existent to giant yellow orbs in the blink of an eye. I guess I'm going to have to make relish and mustard pickles aren't I?
