I finally caved and got YouTube Premium. I really cannot overstate, now I have a direct basis for comparison, how unusable the ads have made that platform. They won! 😭
With series three on the horizon I feel like it would have been cool if Rings Of Power did a 80s fantasy x John Howe aesthetic to get across the weirder/more fantastical elements. Imagine that uber budget with PRACTICAL EFFECTS 🥲
It's somewhat crazy to me that we're not already seeing more on-the-ground government jobs in conservation, water infrastructure and environmental protection. I remember reading a long time ago about what FDR did in the dustbowl and 100 years later we're facing worse with zero response
Good morning bluesky Another bright sunny day here, and time to be closing windows and doors. Stay cool ☀️ Starting with a variant from yesterday's rabbit, who we sometimes see on our walks 👣 #synthart
I sometimes think about this because women tend to casually compliment each other as an animal signal of friendliness. So "I like your top" = hairless lady ape code for "I mean you well". And men generally miss out on that, even if they may get more praise for work and skills
A thing I learned a while back that blew my mind is that men almost never receive compliments, especially cishet men. Giving a man a compliment will literally make their year
Just been House of Dragon spoilered by a detail buried in a two year old article discussing the actors. I know the books have been out a long time but why do they do this, hide little information bombs in tangentially related content with no spoiler warning goddammit
It's official: I'll never be happy again 😭
What the fuck does that thing have to say
One of the things I enjoy about UK Reddit is as soon as someone asks a household budgeting question, thousands of teetotal ascetics turn up to describe how they all feed their family for £17 a week and never touch a takeaway, when I've literally never met anyone who does this in my entire life
My words became a Daily Mail headline after tweeting about Ed Miliband's hair
Okay, my QUESTION OF THE DAY is… What is your weirdest actual accomplishment? Not the biggest necessarily…but the weirdest?
Really good trolling would be to go see Picnic at Hanging Rock with some friends and then 35 minutes in get up and leave the theater and disappear and never be seen again by anyone in their entire life
Finally reached the point where the continual demands of Make Line Go Up has left the stratosphere of material reality. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

My husband inherited his copy from his Great Uncle. Our shelves wouldn't be the same without it
Do you have a copy of the Reader's Digest Folklore, Myths and Legends? I've written about it for the @theobserveruk.bsky.social this weekend. observer.co.uk/news/nationa...
An insight into "the system"- I know someone who has a job via an access to work scheme. They're thriving but need lots of support (the kind a profit-driven employer would not provide). The benefits people tried to use this job status to reduce their income, causing huge stress to them & their carer
They don't It does PIP is not an out of work benefit. FFS, these people are about to ruin people's lives with absolutely no idea what they are talking about while they do it. Not to mention the complete lack of understanding about how needs change, which makes arguments like "mild ADHD" redundant
It kills me how prompt artists love to bring up how many iterations it takes bc they cant edit or make minor changes to a single image or even like plan things out ahead of time compositionally. No you don't understand ordering my robot to build a house is hard work because it keeps getting it wrong
Whhhyyy Bluesky I've already seen this twice this morning is this what they're building data centres in Devon for my brain is going to explode
Gawd. "Wokescold" as a term should be limited to people who sincerely believe you should tailor every expression through the prism of their personal experience, which you should be entirely cognizant of via magic. I guess it's inevitable it would become mangled and abused as a phrase however
Gonna be honest: not a big fan of the amount of people online who are like “ugh I guess the wokescolds are going to make me have to stop supporting Platner because he’s a rapist, I can’t believe everyone is being held to ridiculous standards now”
I think one cause of misunderstandings between Brits and Yanks I've seen on here is that being rigorous about pronunciation over there is part of being culturally sensitive and educated, whereas in the UK picking someone up for saying a word wrong is perceived as snotty and rude.
Getting increasing amounts of AI slop (particularly juiced up tropical birds?) and engagement farming (sad/heroic animal stories) on here 🙃
I had to shop for a wedding guest outfit recently - this and every dress being backless made the whole process a right pain. I'm an aging pear! I need foundational garments and an A-line!
Drop waists are the current scourge on the fashion industry for anyone with any semblance of boobs or belly btw
This cascaded through the entire operation. I've been saying from the start the comms on their owned channels (i.e. Facebook) were so bad as to be akin to direct sabotage. People keep blaming the press for poor perception but Jesus that marketing/PR team needs a shake up.
feels quite telling of how Keir Starmer can't do politics that he gave an interview about his decision (sure) to quit, in which he said that decision was ultimately incredibly personal, and then couldn't expand on what that meant, he just repeated the same words. a man who simply cannot communicate
Having to do a 6 hour drive for a wedding on Wednesday. We're luckily (?) planning on leaving at 7pm so out of the worst of the heat but I dread to think what kind of road closures might be going on.
If I forget to put food out for our neighbourhood magpies for too long they tap aggressively at the windows and catflap. Not sure if I'm their friend or their hostage now.
lmao i am nearly out of the monkey nuts i put on the window ledge for the magpies and one just landed and stared at me with such a "WHERE THE FUCK ARE THE NUTS" look i was momentarily in fear for my life
I'm not going to pretend Liz Jones has ever been normal but if a friend said something like this you'd think there was something wrong, wouldn't you?
One of the things I appreciated in The Other Bennet Sister was how they weren't afraid to show just how pretty Ella Bruccoleri is. When looks are a plot point directors seem to decide actresses should be styled *awfully* with terrible fits & haircuts like all "normal" women can't ever look nice
To be fair this might just have been gratitude for breaking up the monotony. I defy anyone to spend 12 hours on a checkout and not want jump into a tank of electric eels from sheer, unrelenting boredom. And it's soooo much worse when there's no one to serve, trapped in your little checkout coop.
A woman on the till in Tesco thanked me for choosing her and not the self serve option. It landed hard. Never really gave it much thought. A simple choice I'm free to make. We can change things for the better in easy, peaceful ways sometimes.
