What a week for fieldwork! It also helps to have all this on the doorstep of Ambleside Campus 🌳

Forest Ecology Lecturer 🌳🦜 Studying tree methane processors in the Tropics 🇧🇷 📍University of Cumbria
Very excited for my first PhD paper to be published today. We demonstrate how belowground biogeochemistry plays a vital role in explaining differences in tree emitted methane between várzea and igapó floodplains of the Amazon 🇧🇷 Huge thanks to everyone involved ✨
Stem CH4 emissions are driven more by belowground biogeochemistry than species ID in Amazon floodplains Blincow et al. @hollyblincow.bsky.social nph.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...
Spending two weeks in Ghana at CSIR-FORIG collecting some tree methane data and getting in my dose of magical wonder from these tropical forests 🌳🌴🇬🇭
Thesis successfully defended ✅👩🎓 Celebrated with this amazing cake, complete with a mini los gatos (a.k.a the baby) 🎉🎊
My two months at Stanford are done! What an incredibly fun experience. I will miss my office buddies and the sunshine but will no doubt be back 🫶☀️🌉 Now to finish out this PhD!!
Had lots of fun last week at Stanford, chatting all about the Amazon and sharing lots of tree knowledge! @thisanna.bsky.social @clariceperryman.bsky.social @sunithapangala.bsky.social
The commute to work at Stanford certainly beats the M6 🚲☀️ Very fortunate to spend the next two months here writing up my thesis!
The US government has been turned over to a group of extraordinarily ignorant people, and they are working to destroy science in this country. Cutting over half the NSF budget would save < 0.1% of the federal budget, but do incalculable harm. Simply heartbreaking. arstechnica.com/science/2025...
White House budget proposal could shatter the National Science Foundation
“This kind of cut would kill American science and boost China.”…

Me and Andy the Autosampler have had a tumultuous relationship these last 3 years. I’m convinced he knows it’s coming to an end between us because he keeps breaking down on me. The final day of isotope sampling has been 3 days long so far, and counting 😭 Pete the Picarro is looking shifty now too…
What a privilege and a joy to work here. 5th and final trip to the Amazon is complete. Now time to finish this PhD!! 🇧🇷🌳💚
Fab afternoon on our festive office outing to Windermere waste water treatment works 👷♀️💧🎅🎄
Reaching new heights in our field site today. We’ve been busy mapping all our trees, ready to return in the flooded season. 4 days down, 9 to go!
What a difference 6 months makes in the floodplains of the Amazon. Tefe lake now and back in May this year at the same spot from our hotel. Another extreme drought, but the waters are rising!
