Absolutely insane that anyone is arguing against professional footballers practicing penalties ahead of knockout games. I played kicker in the lowest level of American football imaginable, but I obsessively practiced so that when there was pressure, you had faith in your mechanics.

Nice to see NYTimes provide a forthright description of Trump's own stated motivations for invading Greenland, rather than sane-washing it, but this shouldn't just be "analysis." Every story should bluntly state that Trump's reasons are personal and delusional. www.nytimes.com/2026/01/20/u...

In fact, Mr. Trump’s interest seems less about security than about grandiosity. “I said, ‘Why don’t we have that?’” he explained in a 2021 interview for the book “The Divider” about his first term. “You take a look at a map. I’m a real estate developer, I look at a corner, I say, ‘I’ve got to get that store for the building that I’m building,’ etc. It’s not that different. I love maps. And I always said: ‘Look at the size of this. It’s massive. That should be part of the United States.’”

My own take on this and the De Blasio/Mamdani story is that deletions are nowhere near good enough. The link has to go to an explanation. It's actively harmful to our own cause as media to pretend we don't get things wrong. We cannot talking about misinformation and not hold ourselves accountable.

Gonna try and be as fair as possible here. Journalists are not prosecutors and the bar for what we say or print is not as high. But. If one side admits knowingly killing 5 journalists but says that one was terrorist, if you carry those words they have to be caveated with "without offering proof".
