If you wish to hold a molecular model and speak to no one, come to the 3D Molecular Designs booth at #MM2026 (by the posters) and ask for the introvert special! 😉🧠🫠

I just really love shapes. I love it when things are shapes. And I love it even more when shapes are things (Molecular model printer @3dmoleculardesigns.bsky.social, former rodent botherer, perennial cell enjoyer)
Happy to share my new paper from the @nogaleslab.bsky.social, combining #cryoEM and #cryoET to solve how Kinesin-4 KIF21B tail binds to microtubules! Our work shows how the specialized tails of KIF21 kinesins allow both #microtubule attachment and crosslinking. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

What kind of horrible person would make something that doesn't glow in the dark?
Happy #RNADay! !! !!! 🐡

'Favorite' is the last #ArtRepostJuly prompt! My true favorite is spaghetti and Met-balls or membrane ape; but those are already reposted, and I'm very happy with the wordplayportunities afforded by Valentine's Day valine enantiomer earrings. So there. What a fun month of seeing everyone's art! 😃
The valine enantiomearrings have gotten Valentine's-ier. Still some tweaks to make; but they cause me joy, so all further revisions are trivial.
'Black and white' for today's #ArtRepostJuly prompt...hm...two-headed phage should fit the bill!
A two-headed bacteriophage! Those are super rare...
Muahahahaha! I get to help with the @3dmoleculardesigns.bsky.social booth at M&M and also generally run amok! Come visit our booth (#1223, by the posters) and/or let me know if you want me to visit yours! Can't wait to revel in all the shapesmanship! #MM2026 #Microscopy #Microanalysis #Hashtag 🐡

Non-destructive testing for #3DThursday! 🔬🥽 This scan shows how complex internal components can be inspected in 3D without disassembling or damaging the device. Also, come see me at M&M next week! #MM2026 🔬: Neptune Industrial X-ray CT Scan 🏛️: Lumafield @lumafield.bsky.social 🎬: syGlass.io, v2.7.1
'Environment' for today's #ArtRepostJuly prompt--I'm re-reposting this because it's very important to me that people observe giraffes giving birth in different environments! Let the babies hit the floor!
Who am I? Well,
Was sitting in a postdoctoral seminar in grad school. 10 minutes in, distinguished faculty member stands up and says, "You are just fucking around!" Postdoc responds: "Oh, what would you do instead?" Professor: "I would do X, then Y, then Z." Postdoc: "Next slide please." So satisfying.

'Animal' for today's #ArtRepostJuly 🐡 prompt--so...mouse embryo finger puppet? Mouse embryo finger puppet. Meet Henry Wrinkler!
Another trivial delight: Henry Wrinkler is now peach
onlinelibrary.wiley.com/share/SN4YJH... Happy to see our mini Review published as part of a Neuro Cytoskeleton collection. We discuss the #Golgi as a #microtubule generator and organiser in #neurons. A fun team effort with Akila Yagoubat, who is studying asymmetric nucleation from neuronal Golgi.
This is one of the most beautiful cross sections of cilia I've ever seen in our data, found by @csigulinsky.bsky.social. It is perfectly perpendicular to the plane of imaging which brings up an important point ~ connectomics. You gotta have enough resolution to see the important things. 2nm/px FTW!

'Purple' for #ArtRepostJuly 🐡 today--this one was easy. I looooove the textures you can get from NMR structures!
This is another one where I still don't have pictures that do it justice (RNA-binding zinc fingers deserve the world!), but I just fell in love with some of the textures here. Oops. www.rcsb.org/structure/6wlh
‘Realistic’ for #ArtRepostJuly 🐡. It may not be the most realistic thing ever, but I’m so proud of how this spaghetti with Met-balls turned out! (Get it? Because the meatballs are ribosomes and methionine is the main start codon? Ha…ha?) I finally have enough scrap PVA to make a few more...hmm....

'Surreal' is today's #ArtRepostJuly 🐡 prompt, and I don't really post much surreal stuff. So here are some pictures from the old place, inspired loosely by surrealist-adjacent Duchamp.
'Plant' for yesterday's #ArtRepostJuly prompt -> carrot ice-binding protein! Man, now I miss RealCarrotFacts.
It's one of my favorites, I gotta say www.rcsb.org/3d-view/6W78/1
If I wore a print-in-place chain maille phospholipid bilayer like a sash, what proteins should be embedded in it 🤔
'Large' for today's #ArtRepostJuly 🐡 prompt! I'm reposting DNA, because DNA is very large!
I also love DNA with tyrosine poking its lil' head in. "What? Who, me? Oh, hi!"
'Small' for yesterday's #ArtRepostJuly 🐡 prompt! I'm reposting DNA, because DNA is very small!
Sometimes it's wound up so it doesn't go flippy-flopping all over the place, that's cool, I guess
'Blue' for today's #ArtRepostJuly prompt. Blue glowball! Glowbluall! 🐡
I didn't think these colors would go together well; I felt pretty silly starting this print, but I was in a hurry and prototyping is prototyping--I'm so glad to be wrong!! It's a #3dThursday miracle! (www.rcsb.org/3d-view/6JJD/1)
