My idea of a perfect vocal mix is 7th Time on the original 1985 Clan of Xymox vinyl, and that's why I fail. It's not bright, you can barely make out the lyrics sometimes. Lots of dark reverb. I absolutely love it. It's not badly engineered, that's John Fryer at Blackwing Studios. It's not modern.

Woke up to the red sun of Krypton. Portlanders seem used to wildfire smoke. Technically the air quality is better than Austin's right now, but it's jamming my machinery.
Yesterday I tried singing one of my songs more like Connie Francis. It turns out I am nothing like Connie Francis. This is true of most people I try to sing like.
PIKE, about to heroically sacrifice himself for the cadets about to be killed by delta ray radiation... Sudden flash. MICHAEL BURNHAM appears. "I've got this, captain. Get back to the runabout."
I regret a little not inviting remixers for Id Ova. I love remixers. They translate headphone music to the hostile realities of dance floor sound systems, while adding excitement and night out energy. Freeing me up to just make songs.
Maybe I'll reinvent my music as "popular". Not pop, anyone can do pop. I should like to make music that is well received and purchased by individuals who enjoy that sort of thing. If I could just find the right plugin.
The Ting Ting's "Home" album is such a headphone album - I listened to the whole thing. I love that they can just course correct into Fleetwood Mac or the Pierces or something.
Under Your Spell by Desire is so Shangri-Las. Love the Shangri-Las.

Reaper is just an outstanding DAW. I wish I had started learning it sooner. I was tempted to skin it more like S1 but I want to learn its default philosophy.
If you don't have songs on Bandcamp you might not know that the stats graph can also form the hills in the background for the arcade game Defender, playable in the browser on your stats page. Whenever you listen to my music you make my Defender game more interesting. Thank you!
There is no good faith concern. None. There are only people who never gave a shit about trans women in sports being manipulated into thinking there are good faith concerns and then normal people. You can't have good faith concerns about a few dozen people playing fucking sports. Shut up and stop it
enough of this shit

We wouldn't need Soothe if we weren't trying to compress the hell out of everything and reach high LUFS at any cost. A good mix at a good DR sounds good just turned up before any shaping and limiting. I know, shut up Gabi. Come join us here in 2026.
I'll sing on your stuff, I'll write lyrics, I'll topline. I can also play on your album if you need non virtuosic guitar, bass, synth, trumpet, folk flute... soundbetter.com/profiles/555...
I saw there's going to be a new Star Wars movie about the first Jedi. Where there's a Whill there's a way.
There are never any youtube tutorials on how to make your music sound more like The Legendary Pink Dots... what are we even doing?
I am done being trans. Trans people are the subject of nasty laws, hate campaigns, and executive orders. I am just going to be a woman. Oh, wait, that's still the trans thing isn't it. Crap.

Hyping yourself when you are no more than adequate is pretty hard.

In "Get In The Van" Henry Rollins is often lamenting getting punched and spit on every night on stage and I just kept wondering when reading this why he didn't switch to folk music or something.
Dylan Mulvaney's response to Trump's recent attacks on her at the WHCD is worth watching. www.readtpa.com/p/the-punchl...
The Punchline
Dylan Mulvaney did nothing wrong. That's the point.

My genre is high priestess. Hi fi priestess. Lo fi priestess. Entucore. Riding the ninth waveform. Inhaling the volcanic fumes of supersaws on a chariot of dmx drums, to deliver my oracular vision. It's a group ritual, no wallflowers. Come and join me. *be one of us* *one of us* *of us* *us*
No shade, because I do this too, but it's amazing how much we look to experts regarding what gear or plugins WE ACTUALLY OWN AND HAVE HEARD WITH OUR OWN EARS sound like. I am not saying there's no value in a second opinion, but you have to believe yourself eventually.
The Republican stance on women, transgender folks, gay marriage, etc. will be its undoing. I hope it becomes widely obvious. It's pretty stupid. You know, fiscal conservatism is not my thing, but it's at least philosophically defensible. Why not do that?
