Seems like a lot of people are convinced we get Trekonomics from free AI labor but actually you still have material constraints because AI laborers can only mine so fast etc. What actually gets you Trekonomics is replicators and the fact things still take labor is kind of irrelevant

When you build an expensive product, a rich person buys that expensive product, and therefore they do not bid up the cost of a less-expensive product. The impact of building a new unit at almost any level is immediate. It does not require time, deterioration, or changing preferences.

"thinking" is fine as a word to use for whatever it is AI does. We used "thinking" to describe the old Apple spinner too so this doesn't really say much.

Physics Teachers! I’m sure you teach your students about the way in which the discovery of the motor effect saved millions of women in particular from drudgery - the invention of the washing machine and vacuum cleaner being two obvious examples.

One thing I think gets missed in both pyramids conspiracy theories and the googledebunking is that Egyptians actually deployed some pretty widely varied building practices. There's no one answer to "how did they build the pyramids" and probably tried *every* modern theory in some project or other

If I just plug in Kroger prices for costco's hot dog deal I get $1.70. With bulk discounts and wholesale prices I bet costco's $1.50 does cover the cost of the materials, when people call it a loss leader they just mean the labor cost of the guy in the snack bar

This is ohio's voter registration form. It looks like a lot of fields but actually the only substantive thing they ask for is your license OR social security number

States should let you register on the day of the election and cast a provisional ballot. It gets verified and counted iff there's enough of these to affect the outcome of an election.

This is insane. Inflation is under 4%. We’ve genuinely created a monster here: a public that hallucinates intolerable inflation no matter what the actual figures are. It is a bullet to the head of the entire progressive project *and progressives can’t even be made to care.*
