Who is writing about rescuing tech-for-good from technosolutionism? I’m looking for insights on how we use the wise insights from the anti-technosolutionist analysis while maintaining a space for better informed enthusiastic tech-for-good communities and keep the space for nerd voluntarism.

Currently a Research Software Engineer at CIM where I teach Digital Media. Working on a book on sonification and an Encyclopaedia article on Computing and Sound. Occasionally I garden. Owned by cats.
A fair hands full of rhubarb pulled at lunch time. Breakfast sorted for a few days.
Enjoyed making time to read #inventingeliza today. So much to go back and follow links from and to other things.

Command Line session at #dhrse26 reminded me of the elegance of it.
I'm really excited about this forthcoming book from a terrific scholar, based (I believe) on her really New Yorker article from 2019 "The Software That Shapers Workers' Lives" which I enjoyed immensely, on a topic now more than ever relevant and compelling. Good title, too.

Long shot, but if anyone in North #Oxford has lost a tortoise with a surprising turn of speed in the heat, do get in touch..
Gave paper at King's Conference today. Useful directions suggested. Could have done without the train chaos this morning.
Intriguing article that raises so many valid points re coding but also use. Time to think about LLM on different ways? Gap finding? Being a second reader / summarise? I've found Claude useful in reviews with an eye open to researching the review outputs.
'a lot of people who started out as developers are thrilled to get their hands dirty again with a bit of vibe coding – that using genAI makes them feel more in control of a tech stack that’s got away from them, perhaps even makes them feel younger and more dynamic' buttondown.com/justenoughin...

Prototype of a #gephi plugin to help analyse the initial data from Android apps completed and beginning to work. Still some bugs and more testing to be done. It solved the immediate issue of being able to generate data, but not analyse it.

Many notes on crisis in University and disciplines to dig through from it.
Today's workshop on crisis began with monopoly. In the first sense of the game.
Great workshop on AI last week with @cdi-warwick.bsky.social . Thoughts provoked by the sessions and @berrydm.bsky.social's keynote.
Feel as if I might be coming to the latest end of dealing with an estate.

Saw the Tempest at the Sam Wanamaker theatre yesterday. I've been promising myself a trip there for a few years. Definitely worth it and a fun performance.
