Today’s aroma of the day is another from Comme Des Garçons’ “Series 3” collection, this time featuring the smell of Catholic Guilt, and Chamomile, Cistus Oil, Elemi, Incense, Vanilla, Patchouli, Palisander & Ambrette Seeds - “Incense Avignon”. Possibly a contender as my favourite smell of all time.
In case anybody’s interested, this is what I smell like today. Comme Des Garçons’ Series 3 Kyoto. And it’s bloody lovely!

Back in the day, in 1974, I remember reading the sleeve notes, and not knowing what a “Synthesiser” was? Then I saw Kraftwerk on Tomorrow’s World, and in 2026, I’m still researching the sounds Benny Andersson made, inspired by Florian Schneider, Ralf Hütter, etc. This is ABBA’s Greatest Hit. For me.

We were coming out of COVID lockdown, all of us, on my birthday there was an announcement - new work? A new project? Voyage? The Official International ABBA Fanclub held a pre-listen, 24 hours before it dropped. I heard this and it reminded me just how beautiful ABBA are. It heals my soul.

I don’t quite know how to articulate this, but as a child of 1970, as I was growing up in the 70s, my earliest televisual memories are Eurovision, ABBA, Tomorrow’s World, Blakes’ 7, Trek, Monkey, Doctor Who, Water Margin, NTNN. These two women were present.
