So the Thinkpad T490 (32gb/1tb) arrived with Win 11 Pro installed. I’ve installed Ubuntu 25 (dual boot) all setup with for Ruby dev in about half a day. My only gripes would be the speakers sounding terrible and a trackpoint that just is not recognised. Otherwise the machine is really great.

Advise please. I’d like to trial developing (Ruby) on a Linux laptop. Does anyone have any recommendations for a cheap laptop and a distro? I’m a newbie to Linux so nothing too complex that might scare me away. Many thanks. #ruby #rails #rubyonrails
