We have been waiting 593 years for a total eclipse in Reykjavík and it is due to rain on Wednesday. What this means is that eclipses are probably not worth waiting for. We can all think of a few cricketing analogies to that.

Following a decisive victory yesterday by Vesturbær in the quarter-final of the Valhalla Cup, the semi-final draw for the competition is complete. Yesterday, Vesturbær scored 193/9 in their 40 overs. Vaibhav Anandgaonkar made a career best 64. They then bowled Garðabær Glaciers out for 101 runs.

Several parts of The Odyssey (2026) were shot here in Iceland, utilising our dramatic volcanic terrains and black sands to portray the mythical Underworld and desolate shores. That's also where we send failed cricket captains.

Next week, we will have an extra 80,000 or so people in Iceland for the total solar eclipse. That is a 20% uplift on our national population. We can already confirm it will rain.

Valhalla is coming tomorrow!

Our Board (pictured) work day and night to achieve our mission of world cricketing domination by the year 2082. With an average age of 45, it is unlikely they will live to see whether the mission succeeds or fails. That's politics!

We are pleased to put the iconic Volcanic Ashes trophy 'up for grabs' when we take on the MCC from 14-16 August. Set in a base of basaltic rock, the trophy contains real volcanic ash. Win or lose, it will remain in our triple glazed case in our cricket museum in Reykjavík, under permanent guard.

When we play the MCC from 14-16 August, the matches will be played at Tungubakkavöllur, Mosfellsbær. If the MCC beat us, we will ask their squad to pronounce the venue, and if they do not do a satisfactory job, we will declare 'a moral victory'. We will judge them fairly.

After the Íslensk Premier League (ÍPL) comes Valhalla. The Valhalla Cup (40 overs) is what is in store for our clubs next, starting on Saturday. First up is a quarter final clash at Hamranesvöllur between Garðabær and Vesturbær.

More dramatic history made this afternoon in the Íslensk Premier League (ÍPL). Lakmal Bandara, bowling hero of the Icelandic national squad and Reykjavík Vikings Cricket Club, became the first bowler in Icelandic history to take 4 wickets in 4 balls! Well bowled!

Sir Garry Sobers was unquestionably the greatest all-round talent cricket has seen. From averaging 57 with the bat in Tests, to bowling left-arm fast medium, wrist spin, or slow left-arm, he had every skill. Add in his captaincy & hitting six sixes in an over, he was remarkable.
