Five years ago I started transitioning thinking "I'll be fine in Texas, especially if I stay in a city." I thought it terribly unfair that I was born in one of only 2 states that didn't allow gender changes on birth certificates, and that was the only real issue I faced. Completely different now.

ever since @eleanor.lockhart.contact pointed out to me that a lot of online trans discourse has the dynamics of a high-control group, I can't stop seeing it. "you can only trust your brothers and sisters in the group" is a tried-and-true social control mechanism

the good news: I, a 37 year old, have somehow regained the ability to do an all-nighter every now and then. the bad news: I have a job where I sometimes need to pull all-nighters as a 37 year old

I can believe this is one lawyer's view, arising from a combination of his own subjective bigotry and whatever dynamics are in play in his specific jurisdictions and practice area. But we can be realistic about the discrimination we face in the system without generalizing from anecdata like this.

God our copyright laws suck. AI companies are allowed to do this under a certain (debatable) theory under law. It wouldn't be so bad if this resulted in mass digitization of rare books that could be made available to the public, but *that* would still violate copyright for anything <100 years old.
