Of course there was the time a reader gently pointed out what they thought was a continuity error in one of our books and it turned out that four pages' worth of text had gone missing years before.

If it's important to you to call attention to an error in a book (because, yes, book errors can be fixed for reprints) and you do not have private access to the author, consider seeking out the customer service address of the author's publisher, and your message will be forwarded helpfully.
