It’s bad. At least a dozen people have ingested Death Cap mushrooms in the Bay Area, especially in the South Bay. We are trying to get the word out with local health and parks agencies and distributing a warning poster in Spanish. Please be careful when picking wild mushrooms. bayareamushrooms.org.

Deadly Amanita phalloides are fruiting in the Bay Area. There are now close to a dozen people receiving treatment, mostly in immigrant communities in the South Bay. Please help get the word out. Death Caps are similar to edible mushrooms in Mexico and mistakes can have longterm consequences.

Jesus fucking christ. The Trump administration tried to send a bunch of children to Guatemala at 3 am and justified it by saying that the kids just wanted to return to their parents in Guatemala, but the kids actually told the court that they are afraid of being sent back to Guatemala.

Tweet from Joshua J. Friedman:

Plaintiffs: No. Possible some children might be in that situation, but everything we could find on short notice is children not in this situation.

Judge: Mr. Ensign you saying that *all* these children have parents who are requesting their return to Guatemala?

DOJ: That's what I've been toldTweet from Joshua J. Friedman:

Judge: During recess, I read provision you cited and then the complaint. Every one of 10 named plaintiffs says they are *afraid* of being sent back to Guatemala. (Reads aloud from declarations.) Doesn't line up with what govt is saying. This is why we have courts.

In the past Field Mycology was only available via paid subscription- it is now available online free to all. This should help those developing an interest in fungi recording. If you have ideas about the sort of content that you would find useful then now is the time to give Clare your feedback!

Oops. Apparently, I said something over on Threads that got me suspended for a couple days. Bluesky is a friendlier place, but I don't post political stuff over here too often.

What’s the difference between Trump calling Georgia Governor Kemp asking him to find 11,780 votes, and Trump calling Texas Governor Abbott asking for 5 guaranteed Republican seats in Congress? It’s still election interference whether it’s before or after. www.axios.com/2023/08/15/t...

The call that got Trump in trouble in Georgia

In the call, Trump asked Georgia's secretary of state to help him overturn the state's 2020 election results.

I really don’t like these “compostable” produce bags. First off, it says right on the front that it’s plastic. This bag shredded after on a week. The lettuce didn’t look so great either. Help me understand how this helps the environment.
