The war will end before we run out of reserves because big oil does not want us to realize how much we need its product to become scarce. You never know what you need until you get it. When fossil fuel becomes artificially scarce, we will wonder how we ever got along without its scarcity.

Where does the skepticism belong? Data center water use gets shot down, because hobbyists have AIOs in their PCs. But whenever you scale something up, the physics changes. It's probably not practical to cool data centers with closed loops. The closed loops would have to be too large and energetic.

It's not the economy, and I'm not stupid. The economy can take a flying leap, so long as I'm comfortable in my unemployment. The only reason business couples individual well being with employment is to keep us from voting irresponsible companies, such as KochtapusIndustries, out of business.

Here's the proposal from @aldasky.bsky.social, Maddison Wells, and myself on how we can eliminate housing and energy insecurity immediately for millions of people while also driving deep residential decarbonization for the climate. It's win-win-win policy for people, planet, and faith in government.

Reinventing things is only silly when it is scaled up. CEOs such as Altman, Huang, and Musk, are cringe because they believe their reinventions are original. Musk reinvented cutting government checks. Altman reinvented AI as a utility that everyone has a stake in. Huang reinvented the monopoly.

Enhanced unemployment benefits are superior to a jobs guarantee, not only because enhanced unemployment benefits are more radical than a jobs guarantee, but also because it would reduce worker derangement syndrome, thus reducing fossil fueled status symbols, oil company loyalty, and closed borders.

This is excellent because it is not the build baby build all of the above that voters have rejected.

Lol, calling my idea to destroy oil companies corporate darwinism is tickling my pattern matcher. There are two kinds of darwinism, natural and artificial. If market fundamentalism is natural selection of corporations, then my idea is artificial selection of corporations, much better for us.

The problem with criticizing the destruction of oil companies as reductive, or not even wrong, is that it is not a theory. It is significantly simpler than the traditional approach of decreasing production of fossil fuel by decreasing "demand" for fossil fuel by increasing supply of renewables.

"The" tragedy? There are lots of tragedies stemming from inequality. Monoculture is one, yes. But another is big oil that thrives upon and enables inequality.

The tragedy of an individualistic rich society is that people think they can insure themselves from anything, but when collective crises happen, people will be desperately looking for public help that will have depleted because of the past hyperindividualism

Destroying oil companies is not about myself. I thrived by subordinating my ...self... to the companies that recruited me. Maybe I'm just bitter for not being rewarded for more precisely expressing myself. But I think the insight my experience lends me is more significant. Business is killing us.

"We know how to fix this. We have the technology." Uhm no. It's not a technological solution. We don't even know what technologies will scale up when fossil fuel is artificially scarce. We have to dive in the deep end, and find out. UK does not need two fossil fuel companies. Destroy one of them.

The best time to destroy an oil company was before big oil had another excuse to turn the screws. It's not like 20% less crude is the end of the world. We could make due with that, no problem, but big oil wants us to suffer. The second best time to destroy an oil company is when it is profiteering.

"Was it just frightened rich guy vibes? Yeah, kinda." Uhm, no. CEOs have no more control over the "immortal" company than clerks do. The company merely consulted it's crystal Sauron balls, and big oil told it to turn the screws. Big oil turns the screws to keep us from voting it out of business.

Ah ha ha. Adam Smith said corporations can exist without stock buybacks. The mask comes off. His top priority is preserving the existence of the current set of companies. That's my beef with DSA, DNC, and GOP alike. None wants to survive, and deliberately destroy an oil company.

I'm a boomer, generation jones, and my home is not an investment. Keep your ageism to yourself. The reason you can't afford a home is because big oil flipped a switch. It always did have full control of the economy. It corrupts the government for sport, not business. Regulation does not matter.

very tired of pretending that dismissing modern economics is somehow more reasonable than dismissing vaccines. if you’re not an expert, you don’t get to pick and choose parts of a field to believe! you have no way to tell between legitimate and illegitimate results in that field!

According to Stanislas Dehaene, consciousness is the largest feedback loop in the brain, and I agree. If AI companies wanted to create consciousness, their programs would have feedback loops of various sizes, so one could be called the largest. But they just want to extract information.

Could AI be conscious?

My best analogy is, you can't plant roses to "displace" weeds. It doesn't work. What does work is pulling oil companies out by the roots.

My take on wildfire smoke is you knew it would happen, you knew how bad it would be, you claimed to deny it, but subconsciously you knew, and that's why you were miserable even before you breathed smoke. It's not greed, that's a cop out. You don't deserve such a convenient excuse.

I'm no economist, but I can do metaphysics with the best of them. The reason I was the last able to afford an education or a home is because the ratio of wage to price is too low. I've see the chart that starting when I was born, wages stayed flat, but productivity kept increasing.

Even the anti-Israel nationalism is misguided. It’s not Israel or USofPetro$ government that treats you as cannon fodder. It is weapons manufacturers at the behest of big oil. You can’t have your cake and eat it too. You can’t have peace and produce fossil fuel too. I don’t make the rules.
