It seems people are often afraid of liking their own art work due to the worry of being perceived as egotistical or conceited, but you can still love your work and have a huge driving force behind that acting as a love for learning and improving. You can be proud and seek joy while you grow.

I had fun! No reason, no rhyme, just throwing down colour for the sake of colour and figuring out brush strokes. Plus wet to dry, dry to wet, etc. I'm not even actively trying to learn techniques at this time.

If the only large piece I make for 2026 is Djinn III, I'll be happy with it. I'm not in the nature of churning out piece after piece just for clicks/views, or for a niche area. I'm literally just drawing what I want to see hung up on my walls. Or the fanart I want to see.

John Blanche was an amazing illustrator who brought the grimdark setting of 40K to life from 2nd Ed. and onwards. His style is going to be missed. There's something powerful in his raw and traditional work that can't be captured in the digital.
