Struggling to make peace with a world that makes no sense. https://lunarfish.github.io/wealthscales Everyone needs 1 home. No-one needs 2. If you're not a socialist, you're either a sociopath or an idiot.

How did we get to this place where the news tells us what it thinks politicians are going to say or do in the future. Can the news not just stick to things people have actually said and done?
I like this Phoebe Bridgers song but who's giving the lost boys lunch money - Wendy? And where would they spend it? #6music
Does the ECB have an attitude problem? Losing a coach, men's captain, former women's captain and another key figure from the women's team in the space of a few weeks suggests something is sapping people's enthusiasm beyond the demands of playing the game.
@henrymoeran.bsky.social I guess this is the news that Stokes was referring to when he said "something's going to come out in the next few days".
@alison-mitchell.bsky.social groups of umpires: A consultation or a consensus or just a "coming-together" if it's a bit cloudy.
@tmsproducer.bsky.social a group of umpires could be a consultation or a consensus depending on how agreeable they are or just "a coming-together" if it's cloudy.
What I've been thinking today is that a lot of people don't make judgements about things, they choose what to believe. I feel like this should be useful intel about how to change minds but I have no idea how to use it. My brain just reverts to logic which is the thing that doesn't work.
Book pitch: The year is 2031. Every adjective has been replaced with the word iconic. In this iconic landscape, one iconic man with his iconic side-kick sets out to defeat the iconic world government whose iconic plan to create an iconic society seems too iconic to be stopped.
You're here because you're the best of the best. Today one of you will be recruited to the secret service tasked with protecting the president. For your final test you each have a sanitary towel, a party popper and a ketchup sachet. Your task is to improve the president's approval rating.
Is the White House now on a sex-offenders register? And if so, can you take a school trip to the home of a known sex-offender? I assume that could be problematic or at least quite a lot of paperwork.
If you like there to be stuff when you go out - roads, public transport, schools, hospitals, emergency services.. - you're a socialist. If you think you shouldn't have to pay tax for those things, you're a fantasist. If you think you should have those things but others shouldn't, you're an arsehole.
Am watching an old king Arthur documentary and the history professors are so pompous it's really lacking Philomena Cunk.
Still lots of finishing to do but my sit/stand desk is working nicely. Like always there are loads of things I could have done better but am pretty pleased with it.
@tmsproducer.bsky.social question for Andy maybe. Can you chart the age of the England team over time? My theory is that if people want to see patient, stubborn test innings the selectors need to pick some older players. A young team are likely to be more headstrong, impatient and aggressive.
Am a fan of Ben Stokes. His legacy will be that he made a team that looked like they enjoyed playing for England which wasn't the case before. Today though I'm off work and decided not to bother heading to Trent bridge for free day 5 tickets because it seemed unlikely that play would last an hour.
Ruin a movie with a tiny change: (the men/kings/dwarves) "Look Sauron, it's a nice ring but I barely know you. The last person who gave me a ring was my partner .. at our wedding. How about you find a nice ephemeral necromancer or whatever you're into, go on a few dates and give them your ring?"
Ruin a movie with a tiny change: In Star Trek IV, Spock decides to tell McCoy what it's like to be dead.
Ruin a movie with a tiny change: In Star Wars lightsabers come with a little lanyard that loops round your wrist.
Today's rant about BBC news coverage is more whimsical. They described an ancient football as "about the size of a small.melon". Given how many varieties of melon there are of all different sizes and the number of ball shaped things of every conceivable size this seems needlessly opaque.
What's the future career of influencers? Like when they're in their 40s/50s ... Are people going to watch tiktok clothing hauls or unboxing videos? Are there going to be a load of tired, world-weary influencers talking about sheds and pension planning?
Been making a pulley mechanism to raise and lower my sit-stand desk top. Still a work in progress but this weekend was the first time I got to pull on the rope and see it work.
I want to live in a different world please. Ideally one where something (anything) makes sense.
I love the idea that the police are planning to arrest anyone who says something insightful. Would that were true! There might be zero arrests.
This is maybe a bit niche but the Honey Dijon track that #6music insist on playing every 20 minutes, when the guy in the chorus shouts "I'm listening", does anyone else hear Jar Jar Binks? It's not just the tone or the pitch of the voice but also the intonation of that phrase.
King Charles gives a very polite speech pointing out all Trump's inadequacies. BBC 6 Music news begins "President Trump says" followed by trump's claim that Charles' speech expressed support for his illegal war with Iran.
A lot of people today saying it's lunatic, fringe conspiracy theory to suggest that a habitual liar who lies about everything and surrounds himself with people who repeat his lies might be lying about a thing which it is very much in his interests to lie about.
The Washington Hilton shortly before a lone man "stormed a security checkpoint" at the white house correspondence dinner. Earlier a passersby claims to have heard the man saying "I know Kung Fu".
