nintendo wants to make (very young) kids video content, but they also have incredibly strict brand guidelines, so you get gems like this

I am at the Benedictine Brewery in Mt. Angel, Oregon; a brewery run by the monks of the town's chapel. I came here maybe four years ago to figure l visit a friend, and their Belgian Tripel is l has remained the best beer I've ever had. Very pleased to get another glass after all this time.

This was my fun on-a-whim project for the past couple days. I had a lot of fun with it--and learned a whoooole lot. I'm quite proud of it. A lot of history happens closer together than you think
I present: 5000 Years of The Legend of Zelda A flowchart of the media that influenced Zelda. Ranging from mythology and historical sources to ancient board games, D&D, 1930s pulp adventure films, and way more! Click through to see the full-size chart. namelessquality.com/5000-years-o...
Splatoon Raiders thought: Splatoon weaponry is designed to spread paint on the ground primarily; direct offense in a secondary function. Raiders center-stages these offensive capabilities but doesn’t properly recontextualize coverage mechanics in an interesting way.
I picked up Yoshi and the Mysterious Book and am enjoying it so far. Feels like it'd be a better fit as a Pikmin game, though -- exploring alien environments, studying the behavior of the creatures, and giving them silly names. That's all Pikmin stuff!

Scrooge is his surname. He became "Ebenezer" and "Scrooge" at the same time. Actually, the Scrooge name would have been set-in-stone before his birth, so it was actually the Ebenezer that would have been a later decision by the parents. (If he were a real person)
First poster for ‘EBENEZER’, a new film based on ‘A Christmas Carol’ starring Johnny Depp. “Before he was Scrooge, he was Ebenezer”
New podcast: Day of the Tentacle “How about an amendment that the president has to be a human being?” Leon, Brian, Jesse and Ryan get lost in lavatorial time-loops, appraising the Looney Tunes-inspired art and humour along the way. Available now for free via podcast pipes, Spotify, YouTube etc.

Genuinely, considering under-represented genres: Guybrush Threepwood. Working item combination into the moveset (perhaps similar to Phoenix Wright in MvC3) could be a lot of fun.
Congratulations! You have been personally chosen by the creator of Smash Bros to add ONE character into the next game. the only rule is that they have to originate from a video game. who are YOU choosing?
Today my research takes me into some performance studies literature, and I had a half-formed thought that I want to try and sort out, so bear with me. From a purely formalist perspective, there are some interesting overlaps between drag performance and speedrunning. (thread)
I'm enjoying the manic energy of Denshattack! so far. The closest parallel is probably something like OlliOlli, but with the speed turned way up. Also (recency bias for me), it brings LocoRoco Midnight Carnival to mind -- chaining those risky super-jumps throughout each course.
The Odyssey and We Need to Talk About Kevin would make for a *very* specific type of double-feature.
Quick thought coming out of The Odyssey. An achievement by someone operating at the absolute top of his craft; stunning filmmaking. Almost the "platonic ideal" of what we understand film to be. But I can't shake the feeling that it's the distal tip of a branch; not a source of further inspiration...
Tangle Tower is fantastic -- one of those games in which everything is 20% better than it needed to be; voice acting, music, writing, animation, character designs... A team overflowing with an excess of talent and good taste. I can't wait to see what their follow-up game does.
The new game from the developers of Crow Country is out TOMORROW! A sequel to the fantastic Point & Click Adventure murder mystery Tangle Tower. Very much looking forward to this one.
#JokeForNoOne When Maquette launched on Switch, did it have abîîmo support? #LiterallyNoOne
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie came out in March and they're *already* releasing an Odyssey film?!
This morning in Biddeford, Maine, a 26-year-old man said goodbye to his wife and daughter and left for work. Moments later he was dead, shot in the head by ICE agents, the second man ICE has killed in six days. ICE is killing our neighbors. ICE cannot be reformed. Abolish ICE.
Always interesting when acronyms are repurposed. When I was growing up, "LFG" meant "looking for group", and it always takes me a minute to adjust to the new meaning.

Small @letterboxd.social curio. I watched all of the Jackass films this year, and in my yearly stats, it placed Jeff Tremaine as my most-watched director. BUT none of the cast ranks among my most-watched actors. Why is that? Do they not count as "actors" by Letterboxd standards?
Part three of my series about game design aesthetics! In this one I talk about the many decisions game designers make every day, and how they make them. Article four will come next week, where I'll finally talk about designers' personal design style—their design asesthetic—directly. #GameDesign
A Game Designer’s Choices
Let’s talk about making choices. Full-time game designers typically make hundreds of choices every day. Most are tiny, some are more substantial. Most are made…

I found the old Hollywood gags and references in Minions & Monsters pretty charming. There's a nice sequence towards the beginning that does back-to-back Chaplin, Lloyd, and Keaton riffs, recreating each actor's most famous visual jokes, respectively.
