The further away generations get from the horrors of history, the easier it is for them to not understand. It will only get worse as the education system is being manipulated to hide the truth.
My sympathy goes to the everyday soldier and sailor. Nobody gets to decide where they're born. They don't get to decide where they're sent or who they'll fight. Their "leaders" safely in the rear make those decisions.
