The only taxidermied blue whale in the world, 1865 CE, now housed at the Natural History Museum in Sweden. The public was allowed to enter the whale up until a couple was found having sex inside it. Now the whale’s jaws are opened only for special occasions, such as Swedish election days.

I was watching The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension again recently and realized that Buckaroo was not only ahead of his time in terms of science and philosophy but also meme culture.

Agreed. Over the last few years, some friends and I have developed a love for Eurovision that involved months of previews and watch parties for the finals with side votes like best costume. But not now. Not while the political regime in Israel continues to commit atrocities.

Just read that Eurovision had a 35 million viewership decline, an almost 20% drop from 2025. I used to love Eurovision, but it is more important to me that supporting Israel's genocide in any way leads to ruin. I won't watch ever again, until Israel is out, and current leadership is gone.

Agreed. I maintain and listen to my own digital music collection because it has things that aren't on streaming and because the player controls on Spotify, Apple Music, et al. eat ass. I apparently define "inconvenience" differently than the New Yorker.

People don't long for "inconvenience." They long for permanence. And though streaming services may be convenient, people are waking up to the fact that we are paying rent-seeking middle men month after month for things we will never actually own.

The QFC/Kroger app irreparably deleted my saved shopping list items for the umpteenth time tonight. A genuinely baffling "you had one job" failure. I asked them to delete my account and got a speedy reply...to "Olga." I encourage others to delete their accounts and discover their secret identities.

Welcome to Matthew's corner for joke pedantry. Today, we'll be talking about the UX of visual wordplay. I saw this bit floating around, complete with the attached commentary framing it as a joke (a funny one, they assure) and encouraging you to keep trying if you don't get it immediately.

One problem with having a broken foot is that my cats don't understand my new limitations. They cry for me as if I could still move quickly to answer their needs, like I could two weeks ago. Am I not still the powerful magician who produces food from the cupboard and creates hot wind on cold days?

I love that when a genre gets popular and becomes overstuffed with -alikes, it usually also heralds a wave of innovative and differentiated titles that take the core and tweak it or give it a dramatic new coat of paint.

Deleted a post after surprising myself with how much I disliked the NBC broadcast of the Ms game tonight. I guess I don't care for former players reminiscing when I want game commentary. ...and I'm still bitter at MLB taking 💵 for exclusives I have to pay extra for on top of my MLB.TV purchase. 😠

Great piece about a new scam in the TTRPG space. Under the guise of documenting history, ne'er-do-wells are using genAI to fabricate images and articles with inaccuracies that pollute the public record. When confronted, their response: "Send us corrections." Yeah, do work for the those who won't. 🤷🏻‍♂️
