#mayterials Day 23/24- Organized I've always wondered how stones are picked and stacked to end up level like this? Like are they cut down or just really well planned?

#Mayterials Day 21/22- Verdant A combo of 2 reference photos, I was drawn to the multiple varieties of moss on this wall
#Mayterials Day 19/20 - Putrid Haunted disgusting wall from an apartment I almost rented!!!! Hence the delay on these.
#Mayterials Day 15/16- Academy Another one from a pub, however stained glass with this wood color feels very dark academia to me
#Mayterials Day 13/14 - Desolate The beautiful old streets of philly that have been partially reclaimed by the earth 🌿
#Mayterials Day 11/12- Opulent An iconic credit card wall from the local pub! Who knows the combine wealth left behind on this wall...
#Mayterials Day 7/8 - Chiseled The walkways of Philadelphia are beautiful in their brickwork, if not a bit uneven.
#Mayterials Day 5/6 - Terrestrial Somehow this was the fastest material and turned out SO well in terms of height??? Idk what happened
#Mayterials Day 3/4- Condemned I passed by this garage door and thought it would make an amazing texture, and it was certainly easier than the first one 😱 still trying to push height in UE5, may try to convert to a substance workflow.
#Mayterials Day 1 - Industrial This year my approach is still hand-painted maps made from photo sources.. but the choice to render in unreal rather than marmoset may come with a larger learning curve than anticipated 🫠 I expect to return to this grate once I crack the code
WIP on a modular, drag-and-drop blueprint system that answers the question I always get: How do you make your lighting look like it isn't from unreal? The answer is always making it look aged and imperfect, often done in post. This tool aims to eliminate the entire post pipeline, all in-engine. #UE5
Stills from my recent project "Post Apocalyptic Short Cinematics", now live on my ArtStation 💡🧟 www.artstation.com/artwork/a03NKq #UE5 #Relight #Cinematics
Testing another shot but the walk is glitching randomly in the middle... why........ #ue5
#Mayterials wrap-up post is now live on my ArtStation! Thanks to those who have followed along this month, I learned a TON and talk about my process in the post. Thanks to @theclubdiscord.bsky.social again for hosting! www.artstation.com/artwork/OvkN26
#Mayterials Day 29/30/31- "Tactical" The finale!! Tactical in a medieval sense, chainmail. 🗡️First one of the month that is using a metallic map as well. ArtStation post compiling the month and my process with corrected versions of the materials dropping soon, stay tuned!
#Mayterials Day 27/28 - "Crumbling" GF made coffee cake and muffins to chose from for this one, went with the muffins for the tray height difference. Ended up pretty time consuming to hand paint the spec map in addition to height. Looks yummy though!
#Mayterials Day 25/26 - "Sturdy" Log wall from Knott's, seems like its lived through a lot 😪 only two more to go!
#Mayterials Day 23/24 - "Filigree" Some Christmas ribbon that we had to dig out of the closet. Hand painted height map + Materialize normal map. Rendered in Marmoset like always!
#Mayterials Day 21/22 - "Weathered" Made my life more complicated than it needed to be with this one. A combo of 2 images referenced from the backyard layered to create weathered electrical box on bricks.
Experimenting with some new color grading strats while looking into my back catalogue of sketches 🤔 new compilation with some "remasters" maybe incoming #ue5
#Mayterials Day 19/20 - "Alchemy" Every Alchemist has at least several trinket shelves! I assume... Hand painted height map and normal map from Materialize has been the go-to lately.
#Mayterials Day 17/18 - "Brushed" First time using alphas so far this month 👀 Lucky that I had an old clear un-scraped palette just waiting for this one!
