Here’s the thing that frightens me. Everyone executed their roles almost perfectly in the response to these fires and it was still this bad. Everyone. Responders, city, county and fed officials. Detection and warning systems. Everyone did their jobs very well. This was a best case outcome.

I was born and raised here and as far back as I can remember there’s been nothing there but parking, and there are several lots like it downtown. Massive swathes of downtown are just parking lots where the only evidence of the old buildings is the ghosts of old property lines. Look at this!

One thing that’s crazy about this is when you zoom in on the county parcel map, you see the parking lot is actually seven different parcels! These parcels reflect property lines where buildings used to be before they were torn down and replaced with parking cp.spokanecounty.org/scout/map/
