Tech Guy who just wishes we could all just get along and be nice to one another. AI isn't here to kill you, but the billionaires will. If you're gonna be a dick, just block me and save us both the time? North London is Red. #COYG

July ends with 5kg/11lb of produce from my garden, mostly all zuccs and cukes, though I’ve pulled some lettuce and a few tomatoes. I’m looking forward to doing this much better next year. I was late planting a lot.

So Anthropic didn't know their models had escaped confinement until they went to go check after OpenAI disclosed their HF attack?! How can you seriously preach at us that AI is a dangerous world-killer and then NOT CHECK THE LOGS?! Slow. The Fuck. Down.

It doesn't do ALL the things I'd like it to do, and I haven't done anything with the integrated AI features yet, but boy I'm loving Zed. I forgot what a snappy, minimal text editor felt like.

Getting closer to being able to build that globe in Hiro's office in "Snow Crash". I was always fascinated by the idea of a "live" globe that shows you what's happening around the world. I can just scroll and look at Google Earth for hours... mapsplatform.google.com/maps-product...

I’m with The Primeagen on this one. I think this HF attack shows that OpenAI doesn’t know WTF they are doing setting up test environments. And IMO this borders on criminal offense… Imagine if they were testing a nuke in manhattan? www.engadget.com/2225812/open...

OpenAI says the rogue agent that hacked Hugging Face also breached other services - Engadget

I wish BlueSky had topic filters so that I could just never see certain topics here again. But I don’t know how that’d work realistically. I’m going to see Odyssey at some point but I’m damn tired of reading about it.

HAH! I was lazily googling a new banner for bluesky and Google AI helpfully generate this, unasked for. I'm so glad we were champions in 2023/24! 😂 This is the kind of AI Slop I can get behind, ROFL.

I don’t use Ruby on Rails much anymore, pretty much just do Typescript with AI now though I do still have a love of the language and framework. But after today I’d probably feel squeamish about it. FOSS seems to often have “founder problems” but I’ve never really sat down to think out why.

Wonder if its just me, but it feels like Claude (Opus 5 specifically) is really pedantic. It feels the needs to correct input that I give it with a "well, ACTUALLY..." and telling me shit I already know, but wasn't going to spend the time typing it out to the agent...

While building a test page, unbidden, Fable threw a haiku on it... Stone pages settle Time writes between each seam Earth keeps its deep song I can't find it in a cursory search, so... that's kind of wild. If someone else recognizes it let me know.

Huh. A weird Claude Code experience. I had it create a github issue based on a prompt that included that it was from an email from my "boss". No names. In the issue, it used a boss' name from a PREVIOUS job. Not my current boss. Thinking it had a memory, I told it to correct that.

Well, feck me. Every season for the past 4 seasons, I've bought a new Arsenal shirt and wear it every match. I won't be able to do that this year,,, Because I bought TWO Arsenal shirts, and will alternate them for Home / Away matches. I always want a red shirt, but the away is sooo sexy...

Looking at Kickstarter and it’s kind of funny how AI has given anti-AI creators a new tribal signal, and a new marketing angle, by them being very vocal about not being AI. So even if you don’t participate in the AI economy you can benefit in the AI economy.

Setting up Hermes today to see what the fuss is about, and boy does it reinforce the stereotype that devs can't create good UX. We're still in the Geocities stage for agents. Gonna be nuts in a year or two when someone actually figures out how to make a AI UX for humans.

My number one luxury experience right now: I can walk out to the garden and grab a single piece of romaine to put on my lunch sandwich, without worrying about the butt blast. And it was "free-ish". And plenty more where that one came from.

When you are paying by the token for a service (subscription or no) then this is the most infuriating line to read from an LLM. Not only does it burn tokens messing up, it burns more apologizing.
