Today marks the 115th anniversary of the birth of Leonid S. Lavrov, an outstanding beaver researcher whose work made an important contribution to science. His research played a significant role in the conservation and restoration of the Eurasian beaver. 📷 Archives of the Voronezh Nature Reserve.

Happy International Beaver Day! 🦫 Thank you, #beavers, for creating beautiful and diverse wetlands! To celebrate this special day, we are starting to prepare for the relaunch of the beaver meetings in 2027 at the Voronezh Nature Reserve, from which half of our reintroduced population comes from.

✅ We've successfully upgraded the conservation status of the relict beaver subspecies C. f. tuvinicus. This enables the urgent start of the restoration project. These beavers inhabit remote mountain rivers in Siberia, but European subspecies are now replacing them. 📷N. Kartashov📍Azas Nature Reserve

BildThe Tuva beaver is characterised by its smaller size and the presence of white patches on its feet and body. These are the consequences of long-term isolation.

Beavers in the urban environment can cause some problems, but they also help protect natural riparian habitats. We are currently preparing a publication about the beaver population in one of the world's largest cities.

I became the head of the Russian Beaver Working Group under the Theriological Society. About half of the Eurasian #beaver population lives in our country, so we have many tasks and challenges. Our plans include promoting beaver management, NbS, education, and conservation of relict subspecies 🦫
