15min sketch of the large, rather terrestrial castorid (beaver) of Pleistocene Europe, Trogontherium cuvieri. Shown next to a water body nevertheless.

Today marks the 115th anniversary of the birth of Leonid S. Lavrov, an outstanding beaver researcher whose work made an important contribution to science. His research played a significant role in the conservation and restoration of the Eurasian beaver. 📷 Archives of the Voronezh Nature Reserve.

📚 We continue our series of papers on floodplain #pondscapes and their dynamics. The rapid assessments of fish fauna provides valuable insights into the patterns of "flood pulse". Though beavers were not under study, they watched us during the fieldwork! 📷 Studied #ponds 🔗 doi.org/10.1134/S199...
“Beavers in the City” is the title of our latest article. It presents the results of our hard work estimating the beaver population in Moscow. Hope this will be the first step toward developing beaver management strategies.

Beaver-chewed wood as habitat for mushrooms. I think it could also be considered beaver art.
I collect images of beaver marks as great examples of beaver art 🦫
Happy International Beaver Day! 🦫 Thank you, #beavers, for creating beautiful and diverse wetlands! To celebrate this special day, we are starting to prepare for the relaunch of the beaver meetings in 2027 at the Voronezh Nature Reserve, from which half of our reintroduced population comes from.
✅ We've successfully upgraded the conservation status of the relict beaver subspecies C. f. tuvinicus. This enables the urgent start of the restoration project. These beavers inhabit remote mountain rivers in Siberia, but European subspecies are now replacing them. 📷N. Kartashov📍Azas Nature Reserve
Some Hitchcock vibes at the beaver feeding ground. It seems all these birds are grateful to the beavers for the opportunity to rummage all day among branches, wood chips, and debris.
It's been a harsh winter and it just doesn't want to go away. But my beavers made it through successfully, and now they're making the most of the thaw to get to some delicious shrubs.
Beavers in the urban environment can cause some problems, but they also help protect natural riparian habitats. We are currently preparing a publication about the beaver population in one of the world's largest cities.
I became the head of the Russian Beaver Working Group under the Theriological Society. About half of the Eurasian #beaver population lives in our country, so we have many tasks and challenges. Our plans include promoting beaver management, NbS, education, and conservation of relict subspecies 🦫
