She's absolutely been given the all clear. Murkowski and Cassidy are in but have been told to withhold any statements to preserve the illusion that Collins is actually taking a stand as opposed to her usual performative "no" vote when it doesn't matter.

Susan Collins announces she will vote against confirming Todd Blanche to become Attorney General. This comes after Cornyn and Tillis said they will vote to confirm him. Murkowski has not said how she would vote to confirm him. Same for Bill Cassidy.

I have carefully reviewed Todd Blanche’s qualifications to be Attorney General. This includes his record and responses to questions from Senators at the Department of Justice Appropriations hearing, his confirmation hearing, and in the weeks that followed. While I believe Mr. Blanche is a capable lawyer, the Department of Justice has become increasingly political. Mr. Blanche has taken several actions that have further eroded the Department’s independence, and that is the basis for my vote to oppose his confirmation: Mr. Blanche approved an order to shield the President, his sons, and the family business from IRS audits, protections unavailable to other American taxpayers. He approved the creation of a $1.8 billion anti-weaponization fund. He promised an anti-abortion organization that he would seek to prohibit the mailing of abortion medication to women nationwide. Under his leadership, the Department attempted to indict Senators Mark Kelly and Elissa Slotkin over their ill-advised, but constitutionally protected, videos encouraging resistance to unlawful orders. More than 1,200 former Department of Justice employees have opposed his nomination, arguing that he has undermined the institution. For these reasons, I will vote against this nomination.

My GUESS is that this was the result of bad faith mass reporting. But BlueSky has shown it is ESPECIALLY vulnerable to that and very slow to correct it. So even if that is the case and this isn't actual "bad faith" moderation they need to figure that shit out.

Since he evidently has no problem suggesting he somehow conclusively knows I operate dummy BlueSky accounts I do not in fact operate, I just facetiously asked Mr. Lawyer here (@izzos.net) if he also goes around blatantly lying in his legal practice -- and it turns out he *does* actually do this!

Help! I am being accused of running "alts" and "sockpuppet" accounts on BlueSky that I do not in fact run. How am I supposed to prove this? Swear an affidavit? Alright, I'll swear one. Or go ask the BlueSky admins or something. It may shock you to discover I do not control every internet rando

They can offer him immunity. They can bring legal proceeding to determine if his 5th Amd claim is legitimate. There's entire procedures for handling this. And the issue here isn't that "he might lie." It's that the GOP has openly stated they ARE looking to prosecute him and use his testimony

It certainly sounds like Fauci is saying that he thinks Paul is trying to trick him into perjuring himself. But that can't justify invoking the Fifth Amendment, otherwise anyone could get out of testifying anytime by claiming that, if they testified, they might lie. That can't be right.
