Eukaryogenesis was likely a gradual process shaped by multiple microbial partners and virus-mediated gene transfer, rather than a single binary symbiosis. doi.org/10.1038/s415...

'We have a responsibility to criticize public claims that we believe to be incorrect...' I don't disagree. But criticism can fuel hero stories of the people engaged in questionable research practices. Anyone doing this kind of work should prepare for that outcome.
