Against the long-lasting dismissal of evolutionary significance of subindividual variation in plants, we show in this preprint that intraplant epigenetic mosaicism of somatic tissue (leaves) predicts the epigenetic and phenotypic divergence of pollen within the plant www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
Transgenerational imprint of subindividual variation: somatic epigenetic divergence within trees cascades into epigenetic and phenotypic pollen divergence
The evolutionary significance of somatic mosaicism created within plants by random epigenetic drift or localized responses to the environment will rest on its transgenerational implications. This pape...

'Paragaleodes cf. occidentalis' 2 june 2026, near Al Hoceima (Marroc) in an abandoned crop field. Soooo beautiful!!!

🧵👇 polinizadoresdecanarias.org/actualizacio...

Sometimes the target is hit, and sometimes it is missed. This certainly increases the variance of the quality of a flower visitor as a pollinator. 'Osmia cornuta' on 'Lithodora fruticosa'. Funding: @britishecologicalsociety.org
Among Andrinade, 'Andrena solenopalpa' has exceptionally long mouthparts. This picture of a male shows that the extendable portion measures more than half the length of the body. Pollen grains in the galea suggests that this adaptation promotes pollination. funding: @britishecologicalsociety.org

No light pollution, no atmospheric turbulence, yesterday's moon at the Sierra de Cazorla.
It's currently flowering season for Armeria euscadiensis, an endemic plant found only along the Basque coast (euskal itsas krabelina in #Euskara). A few pollinators were enjoying the view as well. 🌿
‘Bombylius cf. analis’ on 'Lithora fruticosa'. If I'm not wrong, this species features a sparse hair with a tuft of black hairs on the side of the abdomen, an evident white abdominal line, and a dark area on the leading edge of the wing fading into cell r1. Funding: @britishecologicalsociety.org
'Bombylius torquatus' (if I'm not wrong...) another beauty among the diverse pollinator assemblage of 'Lithora fruticosa'. funding: @britishecologicalsociety.org
The end justifies the means. Not long enough mouth parts? No problem you can always cut the corolla. 'Andrena' species (help is appreciated) on 'Lithodora fruticosa'. Funding: @britishecologicalsociety.org
Back to the field in the Cazorla mountains to assess the effectiveness of pollinators of 'Lithodora fruticosa'. To my surprise, I’m finding new, unexpected species to add to this study. Here is a kleptoparasitic species of cf. Melecta. Funding: @britishecologicalsociety.org

In this study led by Carlos Herrera @cmhmaliani.bsky.social, we describe three new species of Andrena. The intensive survey over 27 years at the Cazorla range demonstrates the importance of this genus in the pollination of the flowering plant species in this area. 👉 jhr.pensoft.net/article/1659...
Elucidating mutual relationships between bees and plants in biodiversity hotspots is a challenge that requires the joint efforts of ecologists and taxonomists. In this new paper we analyse community-wide relationships between plants and Andrena bees in the Cazorla mountains and describe 3 new species
I couldn't be happier about my recently published paper in Annals of Botany!! I demonstrate the importance of 'Usia' beeflies in the pollination success between morphs of the distylous 'Linum narbonense'. This post by @annbot.bsky.social l is an incredibly accurate summary. Paper👉 doi.org/qc2r

Springer Nature journals failed to assign references correctly in many articles, incorrectly linking to the first article of the volume, thus misleading citation statis. Researchers pay up to €10,000 to publish in these journals, often public money. Reviewers do not charge arxiv.org/pdf/2511.01675
The decline of taxonomists is truly worrying. Perhaps, the capitalist vortex created by impact factors and publishing mafias, with the support of institutions to finance projects that comply with their standards, has something to do with it. It's just an opinion...
