On original release I really loved Final Fantasy X even as I felt the switch to recorded dialog with "cinematic" conversation sequences slowed the pace and robbed the imagination of what previous text-based games offered. But I swear, compared to FF: Rebirth, this feels pacey!
It's fun that a hack whose entire, useless career came about from a now unthinkable "bro bubble" in 2000s Hollywood finally cobbled together a serviceable slasher in Thanksgiving, and then immediately squandered any good from it.

Discovered a French bakery opened pretty close to me and I never knew because I just haven't been down Lincoln in forever. This is a major development. If I can conveniently buy fresh baguettes I can use that as a coping mechanism for a lot of stuff.

Decided to pop on Bloc Party's Silent Alarm. First four tracks are so strong they sorta drown out the rest of the album but I realized the whole thing still kinda flows if you skip straight over the roadblock that is Blue Light.

MPTL Microplastics, a self-professed industrial folk band. My wife was chuffed to discover them out of the blue but then learned The Quietus had already awarded them an Album of the Week nod. You just can't beat those guys for finding the best noise.

I was never really much of a fan of The Frames (Metal 4 Life etc.) but Fitzcarraldo did ultimately cut through because it was named for the Herzog film and young cinephile Jack literally didn't know anyone else who'd even heard of that movie.

So in 1999 Disney Channel premiered So Weird, a show about a tween paranormal investigator who travels the country in her musician mom's tour bus, and the first episode opens with photos of Chicago's Eastland Disaster. I don't think they'd do this now?

I remember Louie CK being a really clever comedian back in the day, who threaded a broader perspective through his material in clever and unexpected ways, but now legitimately all I can remember is him constantly talking about having diarrhea.

My take on The Strokes vs. The Killers is that The Strokes wrote one good song (Reptilia) and I don't think The Killers ever hit that kinda success rate.
We need to bring back "Special Appearance" credits in movies.
Possession has had such a strange journey from botched US release to widespread unavailability and hushed reference to reclamation and acclaim to becoming a meme to whatever this "hip" remake will be. I imagine Zulawski would have hated it all but at least he saw the acclaim.
Race 2 a heart-stopping affair. I don't know who won and I forgot to keep recording to see who came fourth. It took... a while.
