apart from the known standard model of novels, novellas, and novellettes, we are yet to find evidence of the hypothesized novelino, noveletto, noveluccio, noveluzzo, or noveluolo. a great deal of work remains to be done

I think this is right and it’s so much worse than hating someone because people get to tell themselves they’re 「 good people 」 while actively ignoring the screams coming from the basement and if we’re being honest, the screaming is a little annoying and why don’t they just stop already ?

They cannot imagine a future in which Palestinians are not oppressed and afflicted.
Started cracking the structure of an upcoming song, hashing out the back half of a pre-chorus. This is literally two, three years after I first jotted down the title and a couple lines of mood. I write the way Hemingway described the process of going bankrupt: Slowly, then all at once.
When you internalize the idea that the suffering of an out-group is inevitable, you are relieved of the responsibility of actually trying to relieve it; your moral obligation is satisfied merely by "bearing witness."
I don't necessarily think that it's because they *hate* Palestinians, exactly -- it's more that they've internalized the idea that Palestinian suffering is inevitable, and there's nothing to be done. They cannot imagine a future in which Palestinians are not oppressed and afflicted.
It's horrible to contemplate, but I honestly think that for many in the west, the objection per se is not that Israel is committing genocide, but rather that it's taking so long. They'd rather condemn Israel after the fact than halt the process that's already in place.

Any organized religion encompasses both a suite of moral directives and a set of cultural tendencies; and when the two are at odds, culture (usually) reshapes morality. i.e. We want to be "good," but we're resistant to changing our beliefs or way of living; so we change our definition of "good."

Dan McLellan (and numerous others who study the science of belief) that scripture for most people is just a proof text to find what they need to justify what they would be doing regardless. And some churches are technically liturgy and dogma forward by design.
