I will admit, if you'd asked me a few years ago? I wouldn't have "knowledge of Greek myth and knowledge of a 3000(ish) year old poem" as the thing I would use repeatedly to show how know nothing clout chasing incel types are ignorant dips.

Its so disheartening to need to suggest stuff like "well, this company lied so they could keep working with neo-Nazis" or "well this guy is a serial harasser who abused his exs... so maybe buy rpg stuff from someone else." It's more so when people are all "no! I'm still gonna!"

There are few taskmasters more demanding than punkass smugfucks who've never really done anything close to the shit they dreamed about, or who only managed if with a bunch of uncredited and unappreciated help. So... remember that when you're struggling but also when others are.

My car was stolen. The cop acted annoyed she had to file a report and even acted like I was somehow responsible. Then they ticketed my car days later but didn't recover it. And tried to get me to pay the ticket. Then they'd call me every 6 months to see if I recovered it.

It’s so funny when people are like “sure you’re an abolitionist now but wait until you’re the victim of a property crime.” Buddy, the most useful thing the police have ever done for property crime is put the form you need to submit to your insurance online.

Did you guys know there's a minor character in Robin Hood, Gilbert Whitehand(s), who is considered to be nearly Robin's equal in archery and a badass Merry Man and... almost nothing else is known about except they reference his hands like that. That's weirdly useful for me on something I'm doing.

What's a largely irrelevant academic facing flex you can make? Like something that's impressive and kinda cool but simultaneously is very "who gives a damn?" if you tried to lord it over anyone. Here's one of mine. I read the Aeneid. In Latin.

Protip: period pieces, be they film or book or video game or tabletop rpg and so on are as much about the time they are made as when they are set. If modern audiences need to struggle with some outdated mindset or social structure to find significance and enrichment? They won't.

You can not like Nolan's Odyssey. I get how that happens. But it feels like a lot folks who really hated it are upset they didn't the heroic sexed up trials of a hunked up genius killer who masterminded a genocide and never let that bug him because he had soy boys after his wife to murder.

I think we might need to examine how several classists seem upset the story about the after effects of wiping out a civilization for what amounts to trade interests is being interpreted as protagonists conflicted and affected instead of high fiving slaughter.

I'm now seeing people argue that the cannibal giants in the Odyssey are bad because they don't look like scary hillbilly Greeks or something "period". I assume next up is someone's deep analysis of why the Cyclops is too "modern". Just stop.

I know it's often much harder, but try to get fame and success for actually doing stuff and making things instead of shitting on what others do. You might not rise as far or as fast, but you'll be significantly less of an annoying dip no one will mourn. If that seems like a thing you might want.

Finally took a sec to look up that snarky toff manners guy for some reason the internet algorithms think I'd care about. "He is mostly known for his podcasts..." Ah, so he really is useless. Sorry, I don't even hate podcasts but I'm on record they should be the other thing you do. Not the main.

Maybe I'm weird but I don't care what translators of a work think of an adaptation to film unless commenting on translation. No, I don't care they're relatively popular. If they can't demonstrate a similar knowledge of filmmaking? They're actually still an amateur critic getting too much attention.

I say this as someone who loves Westerns, is totally fine with remakes, and has Quakers in me family... Can we stop remaking Angel and the Badman for awhile? I realize it's only been technically remade twice now but the virginal godly woman fixes the troubled gunman has been done...a lot.

Its perhaps worth noting Michael Rappaport, who seems to poop himself daily about how Mamdani is "ruining New York for hard working citizens!" Is a nepo baby whose parents were media execs and personalities who still managed to get expelled from high school. Presumably for being himself.

Clearly truly accurate Greek gods and heroes would be taking truck selfies with their sunglasses while whining "woke and gay" Trojans are destroying them. All while neglecting to admit the real reason they're on the outs is they keep getting picked up for drunk and disorderly and soliciting minors.

Saw this pic from a story about Shiloh Hendrix. This is the picture of a Nazi grifter bargain basement "She Bitch of the SS" asshole who is happy to whine incessantly about her 1k fine for being terrible because racists gave her 900k for being terrible.

(Stands up at podium) Havok is the best Summers brother by a fair bit, but he's better off outside the normal X-circles, as are Beast, Manifold, and a few others whose character get too often sacrificed for some X-plot. Thank you, I will not be taking questions at this time. (Leaves podium)

There's been some talk about properly crediting rpg writers and creatives and I feel it's time to inform many of you that your favorite bit in some rpg was VERY likely written by some creative who didn't get enough credit.
