I teach writing in DC. Research on social media, multimodal composition, democracy, & digital rhetoric. Book reviews @ Composition Forum. Views are mine only.

I, for one, am done with NCTE. The organization has disrespected and deprioritized writing studies and now is gaslighting the discipline with not even halfhearted measures. NCTE has not been clear, honest, or transparent & it's not an org I trust. They aren't listening. ncte.org/press-update...

Surely the solution here is just *don't use AI tools* for your writing and research and continue to do your writing and research in ALL the ways you were doing it before you started using AI instead of doing the work??

Kevin O'Leary's entirely baseless claims that anti-data center rhetoric is being funded by China turn out, by his own admission, to be totally false and without evidence. Surprise surprise. The most stunning thing here is that O'Leary and Fox both apologized-what freaking universe are we living in?

I've reported on Musk for around 8 years. I've co-authored a book on him. I don't think folks understand the rate of his wealth accumulation. Shortly after he helped elect Donald Trump in Nov 2024, his net worth was around $350 billion. That net worth has nearly tripled in less than two years.

As an undergrad, I read Walter Ong's "Writing is a Technology that Restructures Thought" in one of my first rhetoric classes. Thinking about it now as I read John Warner.

We give Apple and AI a lot of credit for how smart they are, but why is my iPhone still autocorrecting “Barbacoa” into “barnacle” every time? Dinner is about to be WEIRD

Stop saying you are "ethically using AI." That's not possible when Open AI and all other companies are eagerly spilling massive amounts of carbon into the atmosphere. Just own up to doing something unethical because it's convenient! People do unethical but convenient things all the time!

One underrated problem with AI's use in writing is that it conveys to the writer they don't need to read because the AI will supposedly summarize and incorporate insights from some nebulous process of "reading" into whatever it spits out. Reading is where the best thinking often happens!

The Education Secretary saying universities need to align with the political priorities of an administration if they want to continue to conduct research is really just diving head first into the authoritarian playbook

Linda McMahon: "Universities should continue to be able to do research as long as they're abiding by the laws and in sync, I think, with the administration and what the administration is trying to accomplish."
