Led by Una Miller, former #URIGSO postdoc and URI's @jaimepalter.bsky.social, the study reveals the region's critical role in transporting O₂ into the deep ocean.

Wow, ditto to all of this 👇. Starting out as an assistant prof (and having kids at the same time…or not!) is such an uphill climb. But with mentorship, community, toughness, boundaries and, of course, some luck, it works. And it sure can be worth it.

Last year, it declined to ~2005 levels. Huge swaths of the ocean haven't seen a single surface CO2 observation in 5 years.

Jorge was a wonderful scientist and mentor. An incredibly curious and creative thinker. Spending 2.5 years learning from him and his group influenced how I think about the ocean and the entire planet. Thankful that many of us celebrated his 70th with him and got to tell him what he meant to us.

Jorge was a model leader; thoughtful, compassionate, and an excellent scientist. His leadership of @soccomproject.bsky.social transformed @bgc-argo.bsky.social into a global system.
A day spent discussing mangrove restoration and carbonate chemistry, ending with dinner in great company, is a day well-spent.

It 1) does not say “modern agriculture is collapsing,” 2) acknowledges need for 35-56% more food by 2050 without further land clearance, 3) says labor needs in traditional systems are 10x higher, 4) says crop yields in highly agrobiodiverse systems are 20-40% lower.
Very much enjoying the deep dive on methane and CO2 from @hausfath.bsky.social and others. I especially appreciate @bobkopp.net's pithy way of making it all make sense below. Worth the rabbit hole ... if radiative forcing lights you up.
Bob Kopp@bobkopp.net · 5mo agoOne fun facts about GWPs: those passionately arguing for 20-year GWPs over 100-year GWPs probably would not passionately argue for a 7% discount rate over a 3% discount rate (and might, correctly, think 3% is too high for long-lasting societal risks) yet mathematically these are almost the same
No Kings in Westerly, RI - huge turnout, hopeful vibe. Little Rhody had at least 4 locations, and I had friends at three different ones. All reported great crowds
Growing up means acknowledging many problems can be important at the same time. Finding hope means working on whichever solutions need your time and talents.
