This run just keeps on crushing it. Absolute Batman gets all the hype, but this is the one I really love. And no offense to Rafa Sandoval, who's great, but I find myself looking forward primarily to Juan Ferreyra's arcs now. He brings such an insane energy to this book.
Sigh. This event is an unfortunate bump in the road for a run I've been really digging. Not into the premise, not bothering with the tie ins. As a prolonged action scene, this is issue is fine, I guess, but I'm not involved with the overarching story.
There wasn't too much in last week's comic stack that really blew me away, but the latest Cap was a notable exception. I wouldn't think that a Cap in Hell storyline could work so well - on the surface it seems prone to goofiness and a bad fit for a grounded character - but Zdarsky is nailing it.
This really knocked my socks off. So good. Wish I could immediately watch it again.
Be nice if it was something more permanent than a 5 issue mini, but I'm glad Tim Seeley isn't done with these characters. Also, I do suspect that when this concludes, another X-Force mini will be in the cards.

Save for Venom, my comic stack this week has been resoundingly blah so far, so I'm grateful for a new one and done FF gem from Ryan North. He's done so many of these ingenious single issue stories that he's practically just showing off at this point, but we the readers are reaping all the benefits.
Except for the previous two parter, which I really dug, I was finding this run to be pretty lackluster. Well, it's back to being a real "so what?" book again. On the upside, I've been loving Percy's Punisher run so I'm hoping the Punisher side of this crossover will be satisfying, at least.
The fact that we're 18 issues in and we're only now starting to connect the dots is why I finally got fed up and dropped this book. Getting strung along with a go nowhere narrative for almost two years now is too much.

This is a fun Queen in Black tie in that presents a retelling of the initial separation of Peter and the symboite at the hands of Reed Richards, but from Venom's POV. Nice work by Al Ewing, showing how sadistic and traumatizing Reed's actions were. Turns out, Venom has some lingering resentments.
I keep waiting for this book to kick into another gear and actually get interesting, but that hasn't happened yet. We're six issues in, so the novelty of this being a dramatic improvement over the previous run has expired. It's got to start being better than just ok. Not sure we're gonna get that.
Figures that the first episode of Lanterns to made me think, "Ok, now I'm interested," is the one people seem to hate. But after two episodes that struck me as squandering the GL concept on a show that was barely indistinguishable from network cop shit, the psychological layers of ep3 worked for me.
This continues to be a super fun mini. Gerry Duggan seems to be winding down on his Marvel stuff, but if this is his last work for them for now, he's clearly having a blast, and Javier Garron has been the perfect artist for it. Loved seeing the characters on the last page making their return.
The Perfectly OK Adventures of Wolverine continue with another perfectly ok installment. I had to chuckle when I saw that in the November solicits, despite my expectations that surely Saladin Ahmed's run must be coming to an end, it's actually starting a new arc instead. Go figure!
Given that Ashley Allen's been killing it on her X-Men minis recently, and that I dug Domenico Carbone's art on Moon Knight, I felt pretty confident this'd be a good read, and it totally was. This first issue is mostly spent on set up, but that's to be expected. Fun stuff, I'm in for the full mini.
Storywise, this fills in the details of Eddie's involvement in Queen in Black, and Charles Soule does a fine job of getting Eddie where he needs to be. But the real star of the show here is artist Juanan Ramirez. I was blown away by his art in the Knull mini, and his work here is equally impressive.
Netho Diaz draws a great pissed off Scott Summers, and luckily, Jed MacKay keeps giving him new opportunities to do so, with this prologue to DNX giving the X-Men leader plenty to be upset about. Really looking forward to seeing what MacKay's got planned for DNX. He hasn't missed with this run yet.
At the start of this arc, it was hard to fully root for Felicia after she - albeit inadvertently! - ran over a dog, but G. Willow Wilson really stuck the landing with this charming wrap up that successfully makes the case for the unlikely duo of Frank and Felicia. One of the best issues of this run.
Charming, funny, inventive, and ultimately it's a heartfelt tribute to the indomitable spirit of the underdog. Thank God it was rescued from the jaws of oblivion, but fuck Warner Bros for being so willing to let it be scrapped for the sake of their corporate bottom line.
Joe Kelly's ASM run has been so good, and so good at making aspects that I was initially skeptical of, work, that I'll put aside the eye rolling deja vu this issue's cliffhanger inspires and wait to see how things play out before I sigh and say "really?" to Aunt May being on Death's Door yet again.
I'm feeling my interest start to flag on this one. It's more of a Dinah Lance book than a Green Arrow one. I do like the Absolute version of her, but this issue, as essentially just one long fight scene, doesn't do much to advance her character.
What an outstanding issue. I continue to be floored by Ewing's meticulous, magical work on this run, abetted by Pasqual Ferry's gorgeous art (and Alex Ross' covers, all of them instant classics). The saga of Sigurd Jarlson reaches a turning point here, setting him on the next phase of his journey.
I really dig this book, one of my current faves from the X line. Bummer that it looks to be ending with issue 10, but I'm holding out hope that they'll relaunch it with writer Tim Seeley still attached. He has a real knack for sharp, snarky interactions that meshes well with this anti social team.
I know some X fans still pine for Krakoa, but not me. I'm way more happy with how the X books are doing these days, just for the fact that both adjectiveless and this are two distinctive titles that have their own storylines, and their own vibes, whereas the Krakoa books often felt interchangeable.
I really wonder what Kevin Smith's Marvel/Star Wars crossover is going to be like, because his recent stuff for Marvel has been, let's say, on the corny side. It's...fine, I guess, but I do hope that he can curb some of that for the crossover. Anyhow, as far as this goes, it's an enjoyable read.
Not that every series at Marvel has to have a larger point to it, but I do find this mini to be weirdly low stakes. The presence of the Origin Boxes is making a much more substantial impact in Zdarsky's Avengers ramp up than it is here. I'm loving Stefano Caselli's art but otherwise this is just ok.
This is a cool tie in mini. Honestly, I'm enjoying as much as the main event. Ewing and Tom Waltz are telling a solid story and Ze Carlos' art is excellent. This issue is especially worth the read for Cloak & Dagger fans.
This was a nifty movie. It just had the misfortune of being a solidly crafted mainstream horror film to release in the same month as BACKROOMS and OBSESSION. Even HOKUM couldn't weather that. I hope this finds a little more appreciation on streaming.

You sure can't say this is being dragged out. It feels like the 1st issue just came out and we're already past the halfway mark. No complaints, though. A compressed release schedule is the way to go with modern events. We don't live in a world now where events can play out over the course of a year.
I still remain in the "this run is just ok" camp. But I'm certainly enjoying it, and artwise, this might be Lee Garbett's best issue to date, boasting plenty of sharp DD action.
