Over a quarter of a million seabirds on Rathlin Island are now safer! 💙 Rathlin Island has been declared ferret-free: a world-first conservation success helping Puffins, Guillemots and more raise their young safely again. Read the full story: www.rspb.org.uk/media-centre...

A chocolate brown-and-white Guillemot stands upright on a grassy cliff edge, its dark head and slender bill silhouetted against a soft, hazy sky. Just behind it, a Puffin with a bright, colourful bill sits among the grass.

Encouraging news for one of our rarest birds 🎉 RSPB Abernethy has recorded 30 lekking male Capercaillie in 2025 – a 50% increase in five years. There is still a long way to go, but through innovative habitat management and collaboration this threatened species could have a brighter future 💪

Demand the end of lead poisoning. Lead ammunition and fishing weights must not pose a risk to European citizens, environment and wildlife.

What a win for nature! Scotland is the first UK country to have Swift bricks in law – a lifeline for this threatened bird. And, for the first time ever, the Scottish Government must set legally binding nature recovery targets. Thanks for helping make history with a strong Natural Environment Bill.

BREAKING: A Gamekeeper has pleaded guilty in England’s first-ever Hen Harrier persecution case. Covert video and audio gathered lawfully by the RSPB Investigations team has helped expose the deliberate targeting of a Hen Harrier, leading to a landmark guilty plea: www.rspb.org.uk/whats-happen... 👈

It’s not adding up. Nature in England is in freefall, yet today’s Office for Environmental Protection report warns the Government is at serious risk of missing its legally binding targets to restore it. That must be a wake-up call. ‼️ (1/2)

A Robin perched on a bare woodland branch, its orange-red face and chest bright against winter light as it calls with its beak wide open. Behind it, tangled branches and pale sunlight create a forest backdrop, evoking the fragile, everyday wildlife that depends on healthy, protected habitats to survive.

Diluting BNG by exempting ‘small’ sites (under 0.2 hectares), failing to close loopholes and signalling plans for further exemptions, the UK Government has chosen developers’ profits over public health and wellbeing.

BNG was designed to be a win-win, delivering nature-friendly homes and communities that people want – alive with birdsong, buzzing with pollinators and enriched by green space.

The UK Government promised to be “the most nature-positive government this nation has ever had.” Today’s decision to exempt more sites from Biodiversity Net Gain - the scheme designed to deliver more wildlife and green spaces where people live - flies in the face of that pledge.

For months, ministers have been pushing a false choice between nature and growth. Now, new research shows just how out of touch they are. With data from More In Common, it's time to set the record straight. 👇

A split graphic. Headings read: “While they make NOISE…” “The public makes SENSE.” On the left, politicians including Kier Starmer, Rachel Reeves and Steve Reed in Westminster gesture energetically, surrounded by cut-out speech tiles reading: “FURTHER AND FASTER”, “BUILD, BABY, BUILD”, “WE’RE TAKING ON THE NIMBYS”, and “STOP WORRYING ABOUT BATS & NEWTS”. Steve Reed wears a bright red “Build Baby Build” baseball cap. The right side shows a blurred green park scene with bold text: “2 in 3 say politicians are out of touch when it comes to nature.”

Last night, Peers voted against Swift bricks: rejecting a simple, proven way to help one of our fastest declining birds recover. ❌ We share @hannahbournetaylor.bsky.social's disappointment & frustration. The vote came late, but with government refusing to back it, its fate was already sealed.

A close, detailed portrait of a Swift’s face. Its dark eyes and sleek feathers fill the frame, showing a rare close-up this special and vulnerable bird.

The Government says this Bill is about growth, but there’s no long-term growth if nature is weakened. ‼️ Peers can change that today by backing science and backing nature. This matters for everyone who cares about the future. We’ll be watching... & our assessment will follow.

A House Sparrow stands alert on a tiled rooftop, framed against warm brick. It looks outward, poised and watchful...reflecting our focus as the Lords debate decisions that will shape the future of nature.

We urge all Peers to back: 148: To avoid environmental damage first & foremost 114: To add a duty to consider climate & nature in decisions 130: To limit EDPs to where they're effective 140, 245 & 246: To embed Swift bricks, bird-safe glass & hedgehog highways into new homes

A group of Swifts wheels and darts above the roofs of new houses under a clear blue sky. Their shapes slice the air: a reminder of what’s at stake, and why features like Swift bricks, bird-safe glass and hedgehog highways matter in new developments.

Protecting and restoring nature is at the heart of tackling the climate crisis. It’s good to see this recognised in the Carbon Delivery Plan announced today. Healthy woodlands, peatlands and wetlands do more than store carbon - they support wildlife and protect communities 🧵

This Bill has been a shambles from the start. Rushed, re-written, and risking the nature it claimed to value. We need a government that sticks to its promises. We need a planning system that works for people and for wildlife. Peers: today is your chance to put it right. 📢

A Green Woodpecker stands alert on the edge of a suburban lawn, houses blurred in the background. The bird bridges the space between nature and people, a reminder of why our planning system must work for both.

Take Swifts. Their numbers have plummeted by 68% in just 28 years. We're proud to stand with @hannahbournetaylor.bsky.social in calling for Swift bricks. Nesting spaces built into new homes would give these remarkable birds a future. Amendment 245: simple fix, huge impact. Surely a no-brainer?

A Common Swift in flight, silhouetted against a pale blue sky as it swoops past a white building fitted with Swift bricks. A visual reminder of how simple design changes in new homes could give this declining species a future.
