The Brewer and Box Springs fires burning in central Oregon were caused by lighting strikes. Tuesday morning, officials said the Brewer fire was almost 28,000 acres. The Box Springs fire was about 12,300 acres. Evacuation information is on the Jefferson County Oregon Sheriff's Facebook page.
"Indefinite closure following wildfire" generally feels bad, but this is an area that should bounce back pretty quickly. Lots of dry grasses and scrub brush and rock. It's not like the lush forests of the western Gorge, which burn for weeks and leave thousands of dangerous snags.
