🌊💻🤓 PhD student @ETH in Niki Gruber's group. Modelling the nitrogen cycle in the oxygen minimum zones of the Pacific Ocean focusing on N2O. Love hate relationship with field/lab work. Outdoor enthusiast 🗺️

🧅🌊 If you want to know what the anammox to denitrification ratio and an onion have in common, come to my talk on Thursday at 10:40am in the Clyde Auditorium! #OSM26 In the meantime, enjoy this animation of the anammx to denitrification ratio!

🌊 Surprisingly stable: nitrous oxide emissions only vary by 17% during ENSO events in the Eastern Tropical Pacific. In our new preprint, we identify the mechanism behind the limited variability — and discuss the importance of this mechanism in the future. 🌎 🔗 Read more: doi.org/10.22541/ess...

Impact of ENSO on Nitrous Oxide Emission in the Eastern Tropical Pacific

Nitrous oxide (N2O) is a powerful greenhouse gas, with the ocean contributing ~4.2 Tg N y-1 to global N2O emissions. The Eastern Tropical Pacific (ETP) is a hotspot of N2O emissions due to high N2O pr...

Are you at EGU25 and interested in the marine N cycle? Then don't miss my talk tomorrow, Thu 1st May at 14:05 in room 1.85/86! Here is already a sneak peek at our modelled N2O emissions 🌎🤓

🌊 Extreme Sailing for Science⛵ Ollie is now crossing the Tropical Atlantic, a region where diazotrophs really express their superpower. You don't know what diazotrophs are or why they matter for the carbon uptake capabilities of the ocean? Then check out our latest post ⤵️ @swisspolar.bsky.social

Me and the @upgroup.bsky.social get excited about those gap winds ⤵️, because we're studying their impact on marine N2O emission. 🌊 If you're invited to give a talk in our group and show data from the Pacific, be prepared for questions about the impact of gap winds on whatever you study! 🤓

Feeling like a dry season in Panama ☀️ because the ITCZ is sitting south, drawing winds across the isthmus and generating a wind jets. While not strong enough to cause upwelling in the Gulf of Panama, upwelling is noticeable in Santa Elena (Costa Rica), and Gulf of Tehuantepec(Mexico)

🌊 Extreme Sailing for Science⛵ As Oliver Heer sails through the North Atlantic, he crosses a widespread and persistent marine heatwave. The CO2 instruments onboard will provide precious insight on its effects on the surface pCO2. To learn more ⤵️ www.linkedin.com/posts/up-gro...
