I do comedy, lecturing, journalism, radio and writing. I like beaches, books and buildings. Probably writing a bit too much about ovarian cancer at the moment because of reasons.

One of those rare “best books” list where I’ve actually read most of them. My recommendation on this list for sheer enjoyment is Jean Hanff Korelitz’s The Plot. (The sequel, called The Sequel, is also very good). The 50 Best Thrillers of the 21st Century www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

I’m out and about today in a summer dress and at times I’ve been slightly chilly and wondered if I should have brought a cardigan or light jacket. In normal times I always have a cardigan about my person. Climate change has changed me.

My brother and I both did English at university and both read a lot. He messaged me today to say he’d finally finished Ulysses and was about to start Finnegans Wake. Meanwhile I’ve just read seven cosy crime books by the same author on Kindle Unlimited in less than a week.

I’ve dealt really well emotionally with this whole cancer palaver but one of the things that really breaks me is having to fill in forms about my illness. I’ve done forms for travel insurance and annuity rates and today it’s more retirement/pension stuff and I cry every time.

Every time someone brings me flowers I think: maybe these ones will be okay. Maybe they won’t be too pollen-ey. They look so lovely: I’ll chance it. Next morning: headache. Sore throat. Runny nose. Feel like I’m going down with flu. Every time. ☹️

I wonder if tonight’s #Mastermind contestants all got nerves from each other? It seemed to be contagious - all of them passing too much and getting straightforward questions wrong. I felt the last lass had something about her and was sad she didn’t do better. (I mean 2026 edition not 1972).

No, online appliance accessories business, I do not want to review the carbon filter I bought for my oven hood. It arrived, it fits. I assume it’s working as it’s supposed to but tbh I’m not really sure what it does anyway.

Sometimes I think this was a weird dream but yes - I was really did find myself at a panel discussion between Nick Griffin and Abu Hamza, organised by Rod Liddle who thought it would be “challenging” for radio bosses to hear. Fuck him. www.theguardian.com/uk/2002/jul/...

BNP leader and fundamentalist Muslim in Cambridge debate

A BBC radio editor last night defended his decision to give a platform to two of the most extreme figures in the race relations debate.

My hair regrowth has reached the tricky stage of not wanting to lie on my head properly. Also it seems much thicker than before. It is interesting seeing how it turns out.

My hair, a kind of short spiky thatch of white and grey.

The day after doing a really successful lot of Vinting, I remember that the Tesco on the corner two minutes from my flat is no longer an Evri shop. 😬 The thing about fatigue is that walking half a mile to the nearest one with a bunch of parcels feels insurmountable but so does driving.

I have emptied out and disposed of all the crap that’s been in the boot of my car for months. I have now refilled it with five big bags of STUFF that’s been sitting in my hallway since before I got ill. I’m now too exhausted to drive to the chazza to drop it off, but that’ll happen this week. 💪

The woman doing the trackside athletics presentation (Rachel?) kept talking about an Australian sprinter called Latchey Kennedy ffs. (It’s Lachie for Lachlan). I mean he won a medal in the 100m ffs so she really ought to know.

I’ve… just rejoined my gym. I was missing the muscles I’d painstakingly built up over the last few years. It feels like time to start doing some gentle stuff on the resistance machines.

I’m watching the Commonwealth Games athletics. Commentator Martin Gillingham, very much the Andrew Castle in this scenario, to Kath Merry: tell us about [thing]. She says one thing and he then starts talking over her. Kath is the best commentator there so she must be gritting her teeth daily.
