This case undermines gun surrender programs everywhere. CPD could have been clearer about procedure --- posters that say to take ammunition out, put them on a table in the entrance hall, and step away to wait for police to come --- because this should never happen again anywhere.

Cook County SA Eileen O'Neill Burke's office is moving forward with prosecuting a violence-prevention volunteer who was arrested by CPD after he tried to turn in a gun at a police station. The man spent 7 months in Cook County Jail for his effort; trial begins next week.

If someone wanted to harm the US economy, higher education, and soft power, both now and for decades to come (because mistrust remains even after reversal), this is exactly what they would do.
