Call Spain, or Sánchez, any names you like but you'll be adding "leading European economy" to the list. Detractors and right wing nutjobs fret not, I'm sure one day woke socialism will get its just desserts ... Mind you, some of us will be thinking that woke socialism is already enjoying them ...

Once again, and again from inside the field, my ongoing frustration and incomprehension at economics is acknowledged as the fault of and the problem with economics itself. Dressed up like science, smelling like bullshit, admitted as misinformation. Cannot see how it can be justified.

When I had the website I'd tell Brits coming to Tenerife that if they needed to work they should expect to have to reassess radically what they might do here, and that they'd almost certainly not find their old type of work. Have a read of Tomasz' thread, show as many "expats" anywhere as poss. 👇

I am seeing more and more posts in places like Reddit from British people wanting to move to Poland and struggling to get a job. Oh, how the tables have turned. But I didn't want to talk about it but about why I don't predict many of them to be too succesfull. Why? Here is a thread for you:

I've always seen books' value in the ideas and knowledge they contained and not in their physical form itself, however loved that might be. But rare books, by definition, have that additional value. Knowing the cost of everything and the value of nothing. Again. www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

Fuerza Canaria quite right to accuse Arona of putting American shite and money ahead of people and basic needs, like somewhere to live instead of a car or a tent. First licence in the insane doubling of Los Cristianos plans (whole area between TF1 and fountain roundabout) goes to McDonalds.

Ditto, especially looking at images like this of tourists casually relaxing and filming the fire they've contributed to from a safe distance, little holiday comforts scattered around while others flee for their lives. One day soon there won't be a safe distance, on holiday or at home.

There's a particular rage when something you've dreaded your whole life begins to happen, and other people react with surprise, or worse, continued indifference. There isn't a word for that rage.

Trump now demands the 2030 world cup is given to Morocco fully and not shared with Spain, top of his hate list, and the "Trump Highway", from Casablanca to the Sahara ... I think this will not be the beginning of a beautiful friendship ... however long we wait, and wait, and wait ... Fuck's sake 🙂‍↕️

The authorities in Wales have been taking steps to preserve the nation's remaining peat bogs - a vital carbon store. But now, climate change, caused by the burning of fossil fuels, is turning the land itself into fuel.

In Spain fires are combining, two near Madrid making a vast next-generation conflagration that authorities say is beyond human capacity to deal with. And it's still met with idiocy. And more travel. Yes, we deserve nothing less than extinction. And the planet and all other life needs it. Badly.

Eva Montemaggi@evamontemaggi.bsky.social · 2w ago

Comments on social media show an unbelievable level of imbecility. People can’t go past the notion of direct cause of fires (usually criminal or negligent action) and the climate conditions making fires worse. Maybe we deserve extinction. theconversation.com/how-do-scien...

Maybe when everything is burnt to a cinder tourists won't want to come. We'll have to live with the destruction they left behind but they won't care about that. We've already seen the evidence that they don't give a damn. Pretty much game over when people go on holiday to 6th generation wildfires.

Stay safe and avoid any and all American foods. If in doubt, or in the ignorance they'll try to ensure, just avoid. Anyone needing chocolate in Spain, just buy Mercadona's own brand, especially Senzza ... it's made by Valor, about as good as chocolate can be if you don't know the brand!! 👇

Listened to an interview with Trump’s tariff guy Jamieson Greer who suggested the EU needed to be punished for keeping out American foodstuffs for “spurious reasons”. Those spurious reasons? Go into US stores and 50% of stuff has been banned in Europe for containing additives proven to cause cancer
