Een gewone sluipwesp (Eurylabus tristis) heeft zojuist een rups van een silene-uil geparasiteerd. Dat wil dus zeggen dat deze rups in ieder geval geen vlinder wordt. De rups doet blijkbaar nog een poging om zijn/haar onvrede te tonen..

Grote kans dat er een rups van een silene-uil in zit. Via dat gaatje kunnen de rupsen hun ontlasting kwijt. Doe er je voordeel mee 😄🤞 #junibloeiers

In the last week or so Western Giant Ichneumonid Wasps (Megarhyssa notrtoni) have oviposited on a dying spruce tree in our yard. Today a female horntail (Xeris indecisus) is ovipositing on the same tree, with a couple male horntails hanging around. The ichneumons parasitize the horntail larvae.

On this year's Earth Day let us marvel at one the more odd wasps that can be found in the High Weald. Mymaromma anomalum is in a genus of its own, and a family on its own. It has net-like wings that are on stalks, a two-part petiole, and bellows on its head. The natural world is truly wondrous.

New Plagiotrypes species from Arizona I'm working on describing. The genus is otherwise known from eastern NA and the wet neotropics, so it was surprising to discover this one from an arid mountain in southern Arizona.
