I realise I’m being pedantic, but there have been at least 6 famous athletes plus swimmer and broadcaster Sharron Davies and 3 time world’s strongest man Tom Stoltman as Gladiators before Joe Marler. Surely he’s not the first celebrity Gladiator.

I've no idea about the complainant's motivation, but even a bad-faith complaint can merit investigation, and I think we can be confident Daniel Greenberg, the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner, wasn't influenced by any antisemitic intent. www.jewishnews.co.uk/tice-claims-...

I was once in the cinema with the late, great Bill Oddie. He was at the Hampstead Everyman to watch the Alan Partridge film. Quite surreal to look over at him for his reactions in the scenes where Partridge did his Bill Oddie schtick. I recall a whimsical raise of the Oddie eyebrow. RIP.

As someone whose father in law has been in a care home for 6 years, this thread hits the nail right on the head (save that his care home costs about double the amount Dan puts in the thread). The social care lottery is pure madness and someone needs to be brave enough to take tough decisions.

I have a modest proposal for a new tax. It involves a deck of cards and a monkey throwing darts. Here are the rules:

I don't understand this show. There's no coherence to it at all. It has no narrative arc, no purpose, and no relevance to the event (apart from Justin Bieber squeezing in the words "World Cup"). Couldn't they have just brought out Diana Ross to miss a penalty and keep everyone happy?!

Is Count Binface the Martin Bell of the modern age? How many Clacton residents will be tempted by a Boaty McBoatface type vote? Is there any national parliament around the world where a joke candidate of the Binface variety has actually won?

I'm struggling to recall a more egotistical act in British politics than Farage calling an unnecessary by-election in Clacton to try to deflect from the controversies surrounding him. Can anyone think of one?

If Wimbledon didn’t coincide with the World Cup, and if there wasn’t the Trump—Balogun controversy, Arthur Fery would be lead story on all the back pages of all the newspapers. He deserves to be.
