For folks asking why bother commenting because the OMB won't care: comments help build cases for the courts by explicitly laying out harms. That's why it's really important to have your comments be as specific as possible. Also, contact your senators and reps! They actually do care about this.

Monday is the deadline for public comment! The Heritage Foundation has been mobilizing its members to leave comments in favor of the rule change, so every unique comment matters (don’t use a form letter or copy/paste—similar comments are batched and treated as one).

If the proposed OMB rules pass, the Trump admin could strip funding for scientific researchers at any time if they decide a project no longer fits the "national interest.” Have you filed a comment yet? The deadline is Monday, July 13. #AcademicSky

In a win for the 1st Amendment, the US Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit has struck down the higher education provisions of Florida's Stop W.O.K.E. Act, and called the law a "breathtaking assertion of power to ban unpopular ideas from public discourse": www.aclu.org/press-releas...

MLA Chairs' workshops are an amazing resource for current --and aspiring-- departmental leaders, and the virtual seminar provides an accessible option for faculty without summer travel support. I benefited tremendously and look forward to participating again.

For those looking at their NEH grant reinstatement, highly recommend looking at the Award Reinstatement Instructions, which are much more specific about what is/isn't a change of scope, what budget changes need approval (nothing w/in 25% of total award), & what staffing needs approval.

Jason Rhody@jasonrhody.bsky.social · 2mo ago

I'm actually finding these Award Reinstatement Instructions more useful than the Restarting doc. The Instructions are more specific about what they are actually asking for & what actually constitutes a change (& what doesn't!). Read carefully before starting. www.neh.gov/grants/manag...

Deeply appreciate this careful dissection of the "evidence" underpinning the State of Scholarship report. With a special shout-out at the end for the World Humanities Report that included the perspectives of "over two hundred participants in thirty countries."

My response to that "Report on the State of Scholarship in the Humanities and Humanistic Social Sciences" is up. tinyurl.com/y39crkzp As I say on Facebook, I back-loaded the good stuff, like showing that the authors' account of the 2017 Hypatia controversy reveals them to be unreliable reporters.

When asked if they will released the AI-generated reports that fueled their claims: "Wilentz: I do find a certain irony in this. People who rail against objectivity, say that there’s no such thing as objectivity, suddenly want more evidence." So much to unpack there www.chronicle.com/article/insi...
