A cynical me thought for a moment this would just lead to more unboxing haul and AI meme TikToks. But then I realized: What would TikTok look like if creators made videos they actually wanted to make because maximum engagement wasn't a financial imperative?

They are being done a variety of officers, including Monroe County Sheriff, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma State Police, US Marshals, a county in Texas I can’t make out, and a county in New York I can’t make out.
I liken it to the Curies and their experiments with radium. They really didn't know the dangers of something so toxic until they were already dying from it.

The one time I subscribed to Paramount+ was to watch the new Top Gun and Jackass movies. After I saw them, I looked around the site, and wow they had nothing. I don't mean nothing interesting, I mean vast, cavernous deficits. I wound up watching I Love Lucy reruns until the month was over.

As much as I detest underclassmen using AI, I at least understand it. They're lazy, they have no investment, they're looking for a shortcut. Seeing honest-to-God researchers who don't want to read, learn and discover in their chosen fields? What are we even doing?

And good thing too, because the citation was wrong. That's scholarship. That's research. You know, the thing we're trained to do?!?
We need to think about GenAI the same way we think about ClipArt. Originally, a novelty. It allowed early adopters of personal computers to experiment with graphic design, which was practically and technically closed off to them.
Know me better: I was somewhat obsessed with Mensa in middle school. Maybe it was the idea of hobnobbing with intellectual giants, maybe it was validation for the nerdy kid. But eventually I just lost interest. The group seemed pointless and a bit lame. I was in middle school.
