An interesting article, if a little fatalistic. Sociology is surrendering to philosophy because it refuses to engage outside of its own bubble. We only talk to each other, and only in ways that make it difficult for outsiders to engage with us. Considering our subject matter, it's quite ironic.

We are complicit in our own demise and in the exploitation of public issues. We speak too much to ourselves!

Larry Glickman@larryglickman.bsky.social · 4mo agoWhat “distressing” ideas? How are they “cocooned”? It’s amazing how much publicity one can get by reinforcing cliches that accord so little with the experiences of so many of us who actually teach college students.
