Thank you to the Daily Post, Vanuatu’s national newspaper, for giving me the opportunity to say farewell in its pages. As I leave after nearly four years, I reflect on what France and Vanuatu have built together across all six provinces, and on what is now under way. 🙏

One last trail in Vanuatu, this time as a family! 12 km with Anya and her friend Tenco, who put in a great performance in their first race (4th out of 62 in the mixed Family category). Another successful #PacificEnergyTrail. Congratulations to the organisers!

A wonderful way to conclude my mission: a Franco-Japanese culinary dialogue pairing Japanese dishes with French wines, and French dishes with Japanese sake, at the residence of my friend, the Japanese Ambassador, with the President and First Lady among the guests.

Une très belle manière de conclure ma mission : un dialogue culinaire franco-japonais mariant mets japonais et vins français, mets français et sakés japonais, à la résidence de mon ami l’ambassadeur du Japon, en présence notamment du Président et de la Première dame.
Reçu en audience de fin de mission par le Président de la République du Vanuatu, Nikenike Vurobaravu. L’occasion de revenir sur quatre années de dialogue et de coopération au service de la relation franco-vanuataise, et de lui dire au revoir avant mon départ.

Excellent meeting with Health Minister Robert Bohn on the main areas of our cooperation: €5 million from AFD for three health facilities on Pentecost and the training of healthcare workers; stronger laboratory capacity; and health surveillance.
Diplomacy is about arrivals, departures and bonds that endure. It is also about knowing how to say goodbye. Glad to have brought together the Embassy team and their families at the Residence before several of us soon leave Vanuatu.
Excellent entretien avec le ministre de la Santé Robert Bohn sur les principaux sujets de notre coopération : 5 M€ de l'AFD pour trois établissements de santé à Pentecôte et la formation des soignants ; renforcement des laboratoires ; surveillance sanitaire.
Le pot des partants a aussi été l’occasion de remettre à trois agents la médaille d'honneur des Affaires étrangères pour actes de bravoure et de dévouement durant la gestion de crise après le séisme du 17/12/2024. Un épisode qui a profondément marqué toute l’équipe.
La diplomatie est faite d’arrivées, de départs et de liens qui demeurent. Il faut aussi savoir se dire au revoir. Heureux d’avoir réuni à la Résidence l’équipe de l’ambassade et les familles, avant que plusieurs d’entre nous ne quittent bientôt le Vanuatu.
This week, the Embassy is welcoming Elona Genoud and Lucille Do, Year 9 students at the Lycée français de Port-Vila, for their work-experience placement. Spending time with each department, they are discovering the wide range of roles and responsibilities within an embassy.
Stronger together! By pooling their resources, the French and Dutch embassies are doubling their support for community-led projects in Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands: water, food security, women’s empowerment, culture, sport and the environment.
Cette semaine, l’ambassade accueille Elona Genoud et Lucille Do, élèves de 3e au Lycée français international de Port-Vila, pour leur stage d’observation. En immersion dans chaque service, elles découvrent la diversité des métiers et des missions d’une ambassade.
L’union fait la force ! En unissant leurs moyens, les ambassades de France et des Pays-Bas doublent leur soutien aux projets portés par les communautés au Vanuatu et aux Îles Salomon : eau, sécurité alimentaire, femmes, culture, sport et environnement.
During the inauguration ceremony, my Japanese colleague and I put the mats at Port Vila’s new dojo to the test - with a Japanese sensei who certainly knew how to take a fall.
Promise delivered! Shortly after my arrival in Vanuatu, we launched this dojo project together with the Embassy of Japan and the Vanuatu Judo Federation. I am delighted to see it completed, officially inaugurated and ready to welcome judokas before my departure.
Au cours de la cérémonie d’inauguration, mon collègue japonais et moi avons testé les tatamis du nouveau dojo de Port-Vila, avec un sensei japonais qui tombait décidément très bien.
Promesse tenue ! Peu après mon arrivée au Vanuatu, nous avons lancé avec l’ambassade du Japon et la Fédération vanuataise de judo ce projet de dojo. Très heureux de le voir aujourd’hui sorti de terre, inauguré et prêt à accueillir les judokas, avant mon départ.
As part of “La French Wik”, New Caledonian entrepreneurs and French companies based in Vanuatu showcased their expertise, products and services on Port Vila’s seafront, attracting a large and enthusiastic crowd.
Last week, Port Vila hosted “La French Wik”, bringing together the presidents of the Vanuatu and New Caledonia Chambers of Commerce and Industry, along with many entrepreneurs, to strengthen economic ties between two neighbouring territories.
