John Brown’s Body

Most Americans still don’t realize what we’ve done: The copper wiring has been ripped out of the walls and sold. The load-bearing institutions have been fully destroyed, international trust in the US (including its people) has been permanently lost. It won’t be coming back. We did it to ourselves.

We can knock down the ballroom and the arch, scrape his name off every surface, but his real lasting legacies will be impossible to wipe away: Activating millions of Nazis, setting the precedent for a fascist government, and ending all trust in the US. Those things will last forever.

Always a good time to remind ourselves that the US Confederacy was, even judged in historical context, evil -- a pathetic, morally repellant movement led by some the smarmiest narcissists ever known. It had no redeeming features & should forever be regarded with disgust & contempt.

Trump officials strip military language criticizing Confederate memorial

A new sign at Arlington National Cemetery omits wording that said the 32-foot bronze statue “mythologized” the Confederacy and gave “sanitized” depictions of slavery.

It’s sad that even if Democrats do manage to take the House, all that’s going to mean is two years of constant government shutdowns and the regime ignoring subpoenas and laughing about it while the country continues to collapse.

They’re stealing the election and everyone with power is just going to let them if not actively aid in the effort.

My latest @npr.org story: A whistleblower report says the U.S. Postal Service is rushing out an online system for President Trump’s push to restrict mail-in voting that could “derail” the midterm election if courts allow it to proceed. Key parts of USPS' plan are currently blocked by a court order

If the citizens of any other country saw this level of blatant corruption, election rigging, and abject cruelty, they would have had a color revolution to remove the regime a long time ago. Americans, forever complacent, can’t be bothered because they simply don’t care enough.

I think it’s really underestimated that a lot of Republican secretaries of state are simply going to refuse to certify Democratic House and Senate winners in November and the Supreme Court is going to let them do it.

Even after It Happens, the fight for American democracy and sanity will not be over. The next leader of the Republican Party will be worse, somehow. And the Roberts Court isn’t giving up power unless we take it from them.

Everyone wants to pretend authoritarianism is some threat just over the horizon, in the middle distance but still preventable. It’s not. It’s already here. America is an authoritarian country that lacks free and fair elections and the rule of law. It happened here.

The US’ former allies have firmly learned the lesson of 2024: America cannot and should not be trusted under any circumstances. That lesson will far outlast this regime, the trust that once existed is permanently broken.

I think a lot of people haven’t confronted the likelihood of the possibility that when Trump faces losing power (whether it’s due to a health crisis or simply the end of his term that not even another attempted coup can stop), he’s far more likely to simply nuke the world than to leave quietly.

I, for one, find it hilarious that Trump has raised over half a billion dollars in campaign funds and he’s not going to spend a single red cent of it to help his own party in the midterms, he’s just going to keep that bag.

We’re learning a lot lately about how inaccurate polls are. Everyone seems to think Jon Ossoff and Roy Cooper have those Senate seats in the bag, but polls and voters cannot be trusted, particularly in the Confederacy. Republicans should be considered favored in both.
