I've never taken part in something like this before, putting my project out for so much public view, so that in itself is something I know was a new accomplishment for me here. As much as I know it's come to be important, using social media like this just doesn't come naturally to me. #CRPShrikes

It's definitely true that I have a solid understanding of my book's ending down. What's left for me to really figure out is how (if at all) I finalize it as the duology I imagine it being. Where "Book 1" ends, that's settled. How the rest fits in, well... still working through that. #CRPShrikes

Suppose I can answer the main and bonus prompts at once here! In my draft, there's a moment when I think the reader will understand completely why Verity has just done something terrible, while simultaneously understanding just how much the other character in the scene hates her for it. #CRPShrikes

Absolutely my favourite part is writing character dialogue. There's no question of that, I just love digging into and finding characters' voices and seeing how they interact in my head. The hardest thing for me is usually working in environmental descriptions. #CRPShrikes

Camp so far has been giving me a lot of reason to go back and look over parts of my draft I feel really good about. Of course even in those areas I can keep making improvements, and it motivates me to do the work I have to to make more of the book be "the parts I feel really good about"! #CRPShrikes

We're in week 2 of camp! How much progress have you made on your project? Have your goals shifted since the start of camp? Respond to fellow campers to hype them up! Bonus: Share a snippet from something you've worked on since camp started (if you’re comfortable)! #CRPShrikes

Verity's typical break day is gonna see her going about through every room in the theatre she and her dad run. Check in with everyone in their troupe, see how the set design is going, what needs work in the scripts for their latest developing shows—just be the person she was in the past. #CRPShrikes

DAY 6 ACTIVITY: It's Spa Day for your character! What would they like to do to unwind from all the obstacles they have to face? Bonus: CABIN RAID!! Find another cabin, answer their prompts, and engage with their campers! #CRPShrikes

Thinking on this one, it's actually difficult for me! I found throughout my original draft that I love the way quite a few of the relationships Verity has across the cast came together. I could talk about her love interest, or her dad, or a very personal enemy she makes, or... #CRPShrikes (1/3)

Survival on the daylit streets and docks of Rastwake doesn't demand much more of you than some basic good sense. But when it comes to the old city ruins beneath the streets, and the lives and affairs of the people who make those depths their place of business, well... #CRPShrikes

My biggest inspiration with this project was thinking about a character dynamic I feel popular fiction doesn't have enough of: a single father raising a daughter. As much as I've built up the rest of their world, Verity and her dad are still a main pillar of my book's emotional focus. #CRPShrikes

Verity, age 16, lives and runs a local stage theatre with her single father, in the expansive port city of Rastwake. It's been two years since Verity unwittingly discovered her dad's secondary identity as a career assassin operating from the city's criminal underworld. #CRPShrikes (1/4)

Hi, everybody—what I'm bringing with me here is an ongoing WIP I'm on my second draft of. A low-fantasy possibly-duology with a 16-year-old splitting her life between the local stage theatre she and her dad operate, and a career as an assassin in a criminal underworld. #CRPShrikes #camprevpit
